Class Description

The purpose of this position is to assist academic departments with program development, advisement, interpretation and implementation of CCBC policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors required, master’s degree preferred. Two (2) years of full-time experience working in higher education, preferably in a community college setting. Experience helping new students transition into a college setting and academic advising experience preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Advise students about academic requirements, career interests, and programs of study and academic pathways.
  2. Disseminate information on CCBC policies, services and procedures to faculty, parents and students etc.; specifically maintain a working knowledge of FERPA, COMAR and MHEC regulations.
  3. Assess transcripts and give preliminary unofficial assessment of transfer credits to determine placement.
  4. Evaluate CCBC/internal transcripts and advise students on educational planning.
  5. Collect and evaluate data on special populations and provide follow-up interventions including the preparation of special reports, as required.
  6. Maintain student records and files, including documentation of individual student contacts / meetings based on an evaluation of record.
  7. Coordinate workshops and presentations as required including professional development for college community, including faculty, through trainings.
  8. Teach students how to use/navigate the registration, advising and transfer technology in advising computer labs/group settings and assist in overseeing the advising lab operation
  9. Create innovative programs for advisors and students using the latest available technology.
  10. Provide appropriate referrals to internal and external resources and services to support student’s educational planning.

    The 403(b) supplemental retirement plan is available to all CCBC employees (Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees).
  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan — 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
