Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science & Policy, beginning August 2025.

Environmental Science & Policy is an interdisciplinary program that draws from expertise in both the Schmid College of Science and Technology and the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in both Schmid and Wilkinson Colleges. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.

We seek candidates with an active research program in Environmental Policy including but not limited to:
  • Climate issues
  • Environmental Health
  • Environmental justice
  • Sustainability governance
  • Water policy
Responsibilities:
  • Lead a rigorous research, extramural grant-seeking, and publication program, which could include publishing books and/or articles in peer-reviewed journals, depending on the candidates’ specialty areas.
  • Teach courses that support the interdisciplinary B.S. degree in Environmental Science & Policy ( www.chapman.edu/esp ) and the Environmental Studies minor (www.chapman.edu/wilkinson/interdisciplinary-minors/environmental-studies.aspx).
  • Advise and mentor students in the Environmental Science and Policy/Environmental Studies programs.
  • Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service, and community-engagement initiatives.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom by creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment that respects and values the perspectives of all students.
  • Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service .
Qualifications

Required
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field from an accredited institution required before the expected 8/1/25 position start date.
  • Strong potential for impactful scholarly contributions to the field.
  • Commitment to teaching and mentoring.
Preferred
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Evidence of community engagement.
  • Interest in promoting undergraduate research.
