Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Health Humanities and Environmental Studies, an interdisciplinary position, effective August 2025.

Health Humanities explores the human condition of health from a variety of critical and creative perspectives to build a complex understanding of what it means to be well in physical, mental, social, and cultural contexts. Environmental Studies concerns the scientific, political and cultural approaches to understanding the environment.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will teach classes that contribute to existing programs in Health Humanities; Environmental Studies; Environmental Science and Policy.
  • Lead a rigorous research, extramural grant-seeking, and publication program, which could include publishing books and/or articles in peer-reviewed journals, depending on the candidates’ specialty areas.
  • Teach courses that support the Health Humanities and Environmental Studies minors ( https://www.chapman.edu/wilkinson/interdisciplinary-minors/index.aspx ), and the interdisciplinary B.S. degree in Environmental Science & Policy (www.chapman.edu/esp).
  • Advise and mentor students in these programs.
  • Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service, and community-engagement initiatives.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom by creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment that respects and values the perspectives of all students.
  • Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
Qualifications

We seek candidates with an active research program in the Health Humanities and Environmental Studies including but not limited to:
  • Public Health and the Environment
  • Medical History/Anthropology
  • Health Equity
  • Environmental History
  • Environmental Justice
  • Global Health
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field from an accredited institution conferred by the start date.
  • Strong potential for impactful scholarly contributions to the field.
  • Commitment to teaching and mentoring.
Preferred
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Evidence of community engagement
  • Interest in promoting undergraduate research
