UH Hilo, Student Affairs, Student Health & Wellness Programs, Counseling Services, position number 96560, tenure track, general funds, full-time, permanent, 11-month type appointment, to begin approximately November 2021, pending position clearance and availability of funding.
Duties: Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Counseling Services, provide direct mental health counseling services to individual students, couples, and groups regarding a wide range of personal and academic concerns. These services include intake, assessment, case management, treatment, and crisis intervention, and may require after hours consultation as needed. Students eligible for services may include those enrolled in secondary schools and participating in summer programs. Collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate effective educational programs and outreach activities on the prevention and treatment of psychological concerns such as sexual assault, suicide prevention, and alcohol/substance abuse. Provide consultation and professional development for faculty, administration, and staff regarding interpreting and advocating for addressing the psychological and developmental needs of students. Provide services in an ethically responsible way, consistent with professional guidelines and university policies and procedures. Engage in professional development activities on an ongoing basis. Contribute professional expertise and service to the university and the community. Seek extramural funding with internal and external agencies to support and advance the goals of Counseling Services. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director for Counseling Services.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or a related field with an emphasis in mental health or clinical counseling. One (1) year work experience, full-time and/or graduate level internship. Experience conducting clinical interviews, making diagnostic assessments based on DSM-V, and formulating treatment plans for individuals with a broad spectrum of psychological problems. Experience providing counseling to diverse populations and a commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations. Ability to travel to local and national meetings and conferences. Computer skills relevant to counseling documentation and presentations. Available to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a mental health provider in the state of Hawaii within two years of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited university in counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or a related field with an emphasis in mental health or clinical counseling. Strong organizational and communication skills. Three (3) years mental health counseling experience, preferably in a higher education setting. Experience working in multicultural settings, and with Native Hawaiian and/or other Indigenous populations. Working knowledge of current clinical, legal, and ethical issues relevant to college student mental health. Experience implementing health and wellness, outreach, and/or prevention programs on a college campus. Experience writing and implementing grants. Experience providing mental health consultation to various stakeholders. Commitment to collaboration and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Pay Range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
