The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Stephen F. Austin
State University is looking for a broadly-trained candidate with a
Ph.D. in Biochemistry (or a related field) who has research
experience in fundamental mechanisms of diseases (such as cancer or
neurodegeneration), genomics, proteomics, metabolomics,
small-molecule drug design, and/or natural products. Postdoctoral
experience is preferred. Experience in mass spectrometry such as
LC-MS or GC-MS is a plus. The department has excellent research
facilities, internal research funding opportunities with preference
given to new faculty, and access to the Center for Teaching and
Learning (CTL).
Candidates should demonstrate ability to: (1) teach at the college level and/or pedagogical training; (2) conduct independent research that has the potential to attract external grants using a variety of modern techniques and instrumentation; (3) work collegially with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators; and (4) provide services expected at the level of an assistant professor.
The ideal candidate will be committed to: (1) excellence in teaching a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students at a regional comprehensive state university; (2) mentoring undergraduate and graduate students through research and other avenues; and (3) collegiality at all levels.
