Department of Theatre Arts

Assistant Professor Scenic Design

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor of Scenic Design position in the Department of Theatre Arts beginning August 2025. MFA in Theatre or related field required with a concentration in Scenic Design. A demonstrated record of effective teaching. A record of successful scenic design. Candidates should show the potential for ongoing creative or scholarly work. Candidates with a demonstrated record of successful college-level teaching and whose work demonstrates a commitment to issues of social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion in theatre are particularly encouraged to apply. Faculty assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year, the workload reverts to the standard instructional workload of seven to eight (7-8) course units with reassigned time for design and production preparation. The scenic design faculty member is responsible for teaching introductory courses in theatre design, scenic design, scenic painting, property design and craftwork, and other related courses, as well as engaged and proactive mentorship. The successful candidate will serve as scenic designer or mentor of student designers for all departmental theatre productions. Additionally, the scenic designer will work with the technical director to oversee the design and execution of properties and scenic painting of all departmental productions. Demonstrated implementation of digital design techniques is essential. Skill with related digital technology (digital fabrication, projections and multimedia design) is strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to work in a wide variety of computer applications including CAD and imaging software. Knowledge of alternative design applications such as film, industrials, trade shows, other live events, as well as costume and lighting design is also a plus. Other duties include: participating in recruitment and retention activities, academic advising, and department, college, university, and committee service. Department of Health Sciences

Assistant Professor, Health Care Management and Allied Health (Management Track)

The College of Health Professions invites applications for one 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty to support the Department of Health Sciences; undergraduate majors include: Health Care Management and the health care management track in Allied Health. Full-time appointment will begin in August 2025. Successful applicants will have a core focus in health care management but show evidence of interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and scholarship in closely related areas. Faculty may teach at the undergraduate or graduate level based on expertise and the needs of the department. Salary is competitive and includes the State of Maryland benefits package. Research Doctoral degree in health care management, health services administration, business administration, health economics, health sciences or related discipline. Education and expertise to teach health care management courses, including: information technology, data analytics, management and leadership development, strategic planning, or law and ethics. Evidence of a scholarship agenda focused in an area of specialty in health care or closely related area. ABD applicants will be considered, but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026. Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units (three credit hours each) per academic year. Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING – provide i) high quality instruction in a variety of health care management and/or public health courses to a diverse population of students, and ii) effective advising and mentorship to students as they matriculate through their program and prepare to enter the workforce; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development, or continuation, of an independent, focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; and 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the Department, College, University, professional and community levels. Department of English

Assistant Professor

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in Technical Communication beginning August 2025. Ph.D. required. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026. The candidate should have a PhD in Technical and Professional Communication, Scientific Communication, New Media, or related degree. We particularly welcome applications from candidates whose research and teaching are anchored to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and community-engaged practices as they relate to the following areas of studies: AI and LLMs, Project management, Technical communication of health and medicine, Global or intercultural communication, Grant writing, Corporate communications consulting and Information and user experience design. Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year plus advising 10-15 students in the undergraduate English degree. The candidate will teach and design courses in technical communication to undergraduate non-majors and in the Technical Writing & Information Design track within the M.S. Professional Writing program. Applicants will need to demonstrate the potential for strong research, excellent teaching, and service aligned with the college’s expected outcomes of impact, innovation, and engagement towards R2 status and the university’s new strategic plan.
