Utah Valley University invites applications for a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Professor position in the College of Health and Public Service. This full-time, tenure-track role offers the unique opportunity to shape the future of healthcare education by teaching a diverse range of physician assistant (PA) and general health courses across face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in curriculum development, utilizing a student-centered approach to create impactful instructional materials with clear, measurable objectives.
In addition to teaching, this position involves active participation in program recruitment, admissions, and the maintenance of clinical training sites. The role requires a commitment to student success, including advising and mentoring, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to the accreditation process. The assistant professor will also collaborate with colleagues to ensure the ongoing excellence of the program, participating in committees and meetings as needed. Summary of Responsibilities
- Designs, plans, and teaches physician assistant courses, with the possibility of other courses as determined by the department. Instructs and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms through online content delivery, lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, individualized instructions, and other appropriate methods. Prepares instructional materials including writing assignments, examinations, outlines, syllabi, visual aids, and presentations as necessary. Participates in Program Learning Outcomes and Assessment. Evaluates student learning, maintains accurate records of student accountability, attendance, and performance.
- Develops an active research agenda that may involve students, resulting in presentations and publications. Continues professional development as evidenced by research, publication, and involvement in associations and continuing education.
- Shares in maintenance of the PA program and accreditation processes.
- Gives service to the department, college, and university through committee work.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Master's degree in physician assistant practice from an accredited PA program.
- Eligible for a current Utah physician assistant license or has a current physician assistant license.
- Current NCCPA Certification or eligible for NCCPA Certification.
- Minimum of three years full-time or equivalent clinical experience.
- Minimum one year of part-time or full-time experience in PA classroom or clinical instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Utah physician assistant license.
- Current NCCPA Certification.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: physician assistant programs and course content, current trends in physician assistant education, instructional strategies and techniques, curriculum development, and evaluation and assessment of instruction.
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content pertinent to physician assistant education.
- Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
- Interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Curriculum development skills.
- Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors with a teaching focus that complements the Physician Assistant Program.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
- Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
- Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas.
- Ability to assist academic advisors, the Program Director, and/or the program coordinators, faculty, department staff, and industry partners in maintaining an effective program.
