Specific Job Title: Certification Officer

Reports to: Associate Dean of Graduate and Undergraduate Programming

Campus: Queens

Job Summary:

The Teacher Certification Officer oversees the certification of teacher candidates from undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs and communicates changes to certification requirements and assessments associated with those changes to all stakeholders. The Teacher Certification Officer coordinates the post-baccalaureate teacher certification application and admission to the University process and collaborates with masters-level teacher certification programs. The Teacher Certification Officer consults with University departments, units, and committees regarding matters pertaining to the certification process and assessments pertaining to teacher certification.

Essential Functions:
  • Works with the associate dean and the director of assessment and accreditation to verify candidates' graduation status for all the School of Education departments

  • o Attest to the eligibility of candidates for institutional endorsement for licensure

    o Collects requests from students to verify their program information and NYSED licensure requirements (includes transcript review of candidates at the time of admission (also referred to as deficiency review), throughout program, and post-graduation as needed)

    o Enter institutional endorsements for students via NYSED TEACH online system (3 conferral of degree cycles and as needed throughout academic year) Evaluate requests for reciprocity and submit related verification forms for out of state licenses in conjunction with Registrar

    o Complete Mental Health Counseling Licensure forms and send to NYSED
  • Provide ongoing communication of assessment outcomes to the leadership team and faculty which includes licensure completion rates and assessing director of assessment and accreditation with analysis of candidate data
  • Keep departments current on all state changes and policies related to programs
  • Works with associate dean and faculty to review new and existing program criteria before submitting to the State for approval
  • Participate in related conferences and meetings
  • Manage and monitor CTLE documentation for School of Education events and collaborate with other academic units as needed
  • Works with the Registrar Office to verify salary differential forms
  • Hold workshops and information sessions regarding certification each semester (summer as needed)
  • Regularly monitor and update certification web page and other pertinent online and printed materials
  • Maintain Degree Works platform under the guidance of associate dean and departments and the Registrar. Review, approve and process requests from departments to verify transfer credits
  • Other duties as assigned

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    The position is full-time and in-person. The expected hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and Friday 8:30 a.m to 3 p.m. Some evening events may also require participation.

    Travel:

    Travel is minimal and may include travel to the Manhattan campus or conferences as needed.

    Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years' experience as certification officer or in a related role
  • Experience working with other institutions of higher education
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Suite (including TEAMS) and Google Suite applications

  • Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Knowledge in Ellucian BANNER
    • Familiar with Canvas LMS
    • Familiar with Degree Works

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $63,200 - $70,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
