Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education
Miami University (Miami), an original Public Ivy and Top 75 National Public University, invites applications and nominations for the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education. Miami seeks an exceptional leader with a strong record of collaboration, a forward-looking vision, and significant academic accomplishment and administrative experience.
Miami University is a highly respected and distinctive public institution of higher education recognized for outstanding undergraduate education and selective graduate and research programs. The University serves the citizens of the state of Ohio, having a strong regional impact in Southwest Ohio, as well as a strong national and international constituency, with more than 40% of their student body coming from outside Ohio. With a student body of nearly 17,000 undergraduate and approximately 2,200 graduate students at its Oxford campus, Miami University effectively combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. Graduate programs complement and enhance the undergraduate educational experience. Two regional campuses and the Voice of America Learning Center, which collectively enroll an additional approximately 4,000 students, and the Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg, provide key access points and opportunities for traditional and non-traditional students alike.
Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost will serve as the campus-wide expert and leader for undergraduate education and promote excellence in all areas of undergraduate education. By working collaboratively with internal partners, the Associate Provost will drive success on key strategic goals related to student success, undergraduate curriculum, and learning and will help articulate new priorities and strategic goals to continuously improve all aspects of Miami University’s+ undergraduate education.
The units that will report to the Associate Provost include: the Howe Center for Writing Excellence, the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), the Office of Liberal Education, the Honors College, the Office of Research for Undergraduates, Academic Integrity, and the Undergraduate Academic Advising Council.
The Associate Provost will work collaboratively with these units as well as Miami’s Academic Deans, the Senior Associate Provost, the Dean of Students, the Vice President for Student Life, and student success personnel in the division of Enrollment Management and Student Success in order to: lead strategic curricular innovation and implementation; expand undergraduate research, experiential learning and other high impact practices; support teaching excellence; and support recruitment, retention and advising efforts.
The Associate Provost will possess significant leadership experience as it relates to student success initiatives, retention, and undergraduate curriculum. The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in one of Miami’s general fields of study and have a history of research and scholarship to be eligible for appointment as a full professor or professor of practice within an academic unit of the University.
