About the Job

The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in literature and culture/media in English produced at any time after the turn of the 20thcentury through the present day with a primary focus on colonialism and its afterlives; postcolonialism, decolonialization; migration; or transnational/ transcontinental/ hemispheric studies. Appointment will be 100% time over the 9-month academic year (late-August to late-May) with a 2/2 course load at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy. Salary is competitive.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or equivalent degree in English or related field, with degree in hand by August 25, 2025.
  • Evidence of high quality, innovative research and teaching of literature, cultural materials/ media produced in English at any time after the turn of the 20th century through the present day.
  • Primary expertise must be in one or several of the following areas: colonialism and its afterlives; postcolonialism; decolonialization; migration; transnational or transcontinental/ hemispheric studies.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for colleagues, students and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and outlooks.
Preferred qualifications:
  • We will prioritize candidates whose primary research and teaching focuses on geographies and traditions outside of the continental United States and the United Kingdom.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the following:
  • Quality, depth, and innovation of intellectual work (in-progress and published).
  • Quality and depth of academic preparation.
  • Relevance of research and teaching to departmental academic priorities.
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching and mentoring and demonstrated skills as a teacher and advisor appropriate to beginning junior faculty.
  • Potential contributions to academic service, administration, and departmental outreach and evidence of commitment to and experience in creating a diverse and inclusive atmosphere within the department and university.

About the College of Liberal Arts
