Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of Space Physics, to start in 2025. The position is initially funded by the NSF Faculty Development in geoSpace Science (FDSS) program.

The Department is seeking applications from individuals with expertise in Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Atmosphere coupling, from either modeling or data analysis/experiment. The successful candidate is expected to complement the atmosphere-ionosphere expertise of the existing space physics group by adding magnetosphere-ionosphere expertise and to educate the next generation of leaders in the space sciences.

Duties will include establishing vigorous, externally funded research programs with a sufficient level of student advising; teaching effectively in physics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; developing new course offerings related to space weather; and contributing to outreach and service.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is a collegial, collaborative environment committed to broadening participation in Physics & Astronomy. The Department’s faculty teach and do research in a broad range of sub-fields, including astrophysics, atomic physics, atmospheric and space physics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, and foundational quantum mechanics. The Department offers a BS and BA in Physics, a PhD and MS in Physics, and a PhD and a MS in Medical Biophysics.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a PhD in Physics or a discipline closely related to aeronomy or space sciences.
