Job Description
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Shuttle Supervisor, Motor Vehicle Operators will be responsible for the operation of Shuttle Bus vehicles on, around, and in the vicinity of the Montclair State University campus. Must be flexible and available for all assigned shifts and holiday assignments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Operates the campus shuttle bus and provides safe, efficient
and reliable transportation to campus constituents, in accordance
with established schedules and during emergency situations.
- Ensures safe and proper function of assigned vehicle, provide
effective communication, makes suggestions for enhancements to the
shuttle system.
- Provides excellent customer service at all times.
- Reports all mechanical problems immediately to the
supervisor.
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicle, removing and properly
disposing of debris from bus at the end of each shift.
- Completes and submits all required forms and reports to
supervisor prior to the end of shift.
- Conducts pre-trip inspections before driving when starting a
shift and a post-trip inspection at the end of the shift.
- Operates ADA equipment in a knowledgeable and capable
manner.
- Reports accidents and damage to the supervisor and proper
authorities immediately.
- Maintains a pleasant and friendly environment for passengers;
provides directions and information about University and
surrounding locations; assists passengers with boarding and
disembarking vehicle as necessary.
- Performs proper log-on and log-off procedures for TripShot
vehicle tracking and maintains communications with dispatch office
at all times.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease
turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively
and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of
electronic and or manual recording and computerized information
systems used by the institution and Department of Shuttle
Services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED Certificate preferred. Two (2) years
experience in work involving the operation of commercial
buses.
- Appointees must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License
(CDL) Class A or B Driver’s license issued by the New Jersey
Division of Motor Vehicles.
- Appointees must possess the applicable endorsements (passenger
and air brake endorsement) for the class and type of vehicle being
operated.
