  • Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a Counselor position in the Counseling Services Department. The qualified candidate for this full-time, nine-month (September 1 – May 31) position will report to the Director of Counseling Services.

    Responsibilities
  • Provide individual mental health counseling to college students on a wide range of presenting issues, maintain required clinical records using the provided electronic record-keeping program (Titanium).
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and parents about issues of concern. Clinical consultation as appropriate and with the use of strong ethical consideration. Make referrals, as appropriate.
  • Provide diagnostic and psychological assessment and be available to participate in rotating on-call coverage and crisis intervention, as needed.
  • Serve as a program advisor to on-campus peer wellness advisors (An internal counseling center program that provides peer mentorship and support to students requiring help that doesn’t rise to the level of counseling). Peer Wellness Advisors help peers bridge resources on campus, while facilitating a plan to create a balance between mental, physical, and emotional health.
  • Provide psycho-educational programming, and or deliver workshops to various groups on campus (i.e. residence halls, fraternities, sororities or other student groups).
  • Strong interest in health and wellness issues is a plus.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or closely related field.
  • Virginia licensure required (prior work with college students is preferred).
  • The successful candidate will possess excellent clinical skills and an ability to work skillfully with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with a traditional college-age population and possess knowledge of developmental issues specific to this age group.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills and the ability to create and present psycho-educational programs are required.
  • At least one year of assessment skills is preferred; but not required.
