Job Summary:
The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Ecampus Instructor/Senior Instructor I position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

Appointment at the Instructor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Instructor positions in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Oregon State University are a dynamic and impactful opportunity to influence and support the engineers of the future. This position helps students adapt their technical understanding to work-ready skills by course instruction, developing course materials, mentoring, and crafting overall program goals.

The online instructor (i.e., remote) in the School of EECS will develop and teach a variety of courses for the new online ECE program through Oregon State Ecampus. The online ECE program is expected to start Fall 2025 and is in early development, so the position will have a significant impact on the overall program. Instructors of the ECE Program may Instruct for all topic areas of ECE. Work can be performed remotely with up to a single one-week trip to Corvallis, Oregon each year. Ecampus course sizes vary with demand, but tend to be between 50 and 150 students.

Key Responsibilities
90% TeachingDevelop and teach course materials in one or more areas of ECE including, but not limited to, the following: Electrical

Fundamentals, Lab Tools and Equipment, Digital Design, Circuit Design, Power Systems, Signal and Systems, Semiconductors, E&M, Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Networking, and VLSI/Verilog Design.

Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating online classroom discussions, assessing student performance, and/or preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession, and creating an inclusive classroom (e.g., mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, and fostering affirming classroom interactions across different and challenging structural/cultural barriers that limit movement towards social equity in engineering education and practice).

As needed, assist in driving curriculum design and development.

Provide leadership, supervision, and direction for undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.

10% ServiceService includes participation in and leadership of School, College, and University committees, attending meetings, and

contributing to outreach activities. Participation in service to the profession should be pursued as appropriate.
What You Will Need
Minimum Qualifications (For All Ranks):
  • Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, and facilitating learning, inside or outside of a classroom setting either in person or online.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct in one or more areas of need in the ECE program including, but not limited to, Electrical Fundamentals, Lab Tools and Equipment, Digital Design, Circuit Design, Power Systems, Signal and Systems, Semiconductors, E&M, Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Networking, and VLSI/Verilog Design.
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inclusion and equity issues within ECE or other STEM fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to use active teaching strategies.
  • Ongoing commitment to identifying challenges and opportunities in teaching, demonstrated by seeking resources and guidance to improve.
  • Effective written and verbal English skills.
  • Proficiency with a breadth of tools, frameworks, and best practices in the electrical and computer engineering industry.

Minimum Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Senior Instructor I:
  • Four years of professional experience teaching at the college- or university-level
  • Sustained record of exceptional teaching at the college or university level as evidenced by student evaluations of teaching.

What We Would Like You to Have

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Other than an in-person faculty retreat that takes place in Corvallis, Oregon in September of each year, all work can be performed remotely. Must be available to work during normal Pacific time zone business hours. Travel expenses incurred for the faculty retreat will be reimbursed according to university guidelines.
