Department of Dance

Assistant Professor of Dance

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance beginning August 2025. Terminal degree required. A depth of technical practice and pedagogical skills in classical and contemporary ballet and experience teaching advanced, pre-professional dance majors. Additional experience in dance education, dance history, dance science, dance writing/advance writing, or dance and film are desired. We encourage applicants with experience in diverse cultural and global perspectives and interest in innovation, collaboration and emerging trends in dance performance, choreography, and education. Experience in choreography and a committed practice to exploring and advancing these processes through research to support shifting constructs in 21st century dance. Demonstrated abilities in teaching in higher education, and a record of scholarship (creative and/or written). Position carries a 3/3 course teaching load with responsibilities for required courses in the BFA in dance performance and choreography. Teaching responsibilities also include advising and mentoring. Professional growth and scholarly activity are expected along with service to the department, college, and university. In addition, professional and civic service are expected within a community of shared governance. The department is seeking individuals with a specialty in recognized pedagogies or emerging forms who understand curricular relevance for pre-professional undergraduate dance major students supporting 21st century needs. Department of Music

Assistant Professor, Music Education

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor in Instrumental Music Education in the Department of Music beginning August 2025. Music educators with a broad range of experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply: instrumental music education at the secondary level, band and orchestra repertoire for music education, foundations of music education, brass and/or woodwind techniques, internship (student teacher) supervision, conducting, and related expertise in instrumental music education. Commitment to diversity and equity in music education in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Scholarship/creative activity in the discipline. Service to the department, college, university, and community based on candidate’s strengths. Additional compensated summer teaching is possible. Earned doctorate in music education; ABD applicants considered, but appointment prior to doctoral qualification will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2025. A minimum of three years of public/private school teaching experience is required. Evidence of a strong background in instrumental music education at the secondary level. Experience teaching in some of the following areas: secondary instrumental methods, foundations of music education, conducting, band and orchestra repertoire for music education, and brass and/ or woodwind methods. Commitment to equity and diversity in all aspects of the position. Desire to work in team situations and proficient with the use of technology in face-to-face and/or online instruction. Desired Qualifications: College/University level teaching experience and/or expertise in music education research and assessment methods, music in special education, and the ability to teach in other areas of expertise. Experience as an internship mentor teacher/supervisor (student teaching) and in curriculum design/redesign. Teach and co-teach courses in the undergraduate and/or graduate music education degree programs, which could include, but are not limited to, research and assessment methods, music in special education, instrumental methods/pedagogy (string, brass, woodwind, piano and/or guitar), instrumental conducting, foundation courses in music education, repertoire in winds/strings/ percussion, student intern mentorship/supervision, and graduate courses in music education. Work collegially with faculty in the various aspects of the music education program and curriculum. Engage in curriculum development. Recruit students and develop collaborative relationships with the local, regional, and national music education community through school visits, conference and in-service presentations, festival adjudication, and guest conducting engagements. Engage in a trajectory of significant scholarship/creative activity and service commensurate with the expectations for promotion and tenure at Towson University. Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, Director of Bands

Tenure-track, 9-month faculty appointment beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will be a highly accomplished pedagogue, musical artist, energetic and inspiring leader, recruiter within and outside Towson University, and collaborative colleague. Compensated summer teaching is possible. Completed DMA (or equivalent degree) in Wind or Symphonic Band conducting or a doctorate degree in which concert band conducting is a central component. Demonstrated success as a band conductor, teacher, and recruiter with at least two years of teaching experience at the college/university level. Evidence of work in team situations. Conduct, coordinate, and administer Towson University concert bands. Regional recruiting of qualified students. Develop and sustain strong relationships with the local, regional, and national band community through school visits, workshop presentations, and guest conducting. Engage in scholarship/creative activity and service, including supervision of student workers associated with the band and instruments. Additional duties commensurate with qualifications may include teaching assignments in music education, conducting courses, ensembles, applied conducting, studio, and/or classroom teaching. Department of Kinesiology

Assistant Professor in Kinesiology

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2025. Research doctoral degree in Exercise Science or closely related field. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026. Candidates must present evidence of a scholarship agenda focused in an area of specialty in Exercise Science that compliments the expertise of current faculty, the course offerings, and available resources. Human subjects research with potential for external funding is highly valued. Candidates must have the training and expertise to teach multiple Exercise Science courses in the following areas: motor learning, motor development, sports nutrition, biomechanics, fitness and exercise assessment, research methods, and/or strength and conditioning. Candidates with expertise to teach across the kinesiology disciplinary boundaries are highly valued and encouraged to apply. Post-doctoral candidates are encouraged to apply. Assistant or Associate Professor in Speech-Language Pathology

Two tenure-track, 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor positions in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology beginning August 2025. Faculty with expertise in adult medical/acquired neurogenic communication disorders, multicultural/multilingual populations, and/or counseling are encouraged to apply, with other areas of expertise considered as well. Assistant Professor, Fiction Writing

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in fiction writing in the Department of English, beginning August 2025. Applicants must have a terminal degree in creative writing (MFA or PhD) or related field, and a strong record of high-quality fiction publications or promise thereof and demonstrated excellence as a teacher. Expertise in other areas related to professional writing, such as editing, magazine production, freelance writing, or other types of creative writing is desirable. 3/3 course load ranging from introductory level to classes in our graduate professional writing program, and rotations teaching Editing the Literary Magazine; advise 10-15 undergraduates. Applicants will need to demonstrate the potential for strong research, excellent teaching, and service aligned with the college’s expected outcomes of impact, innovation, and engagement toward R2 status and the university’s new strategic plan. Assistant/Associate Professor, Diversity Science in Psychology

One tenure-track, 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor position in Psychology with a focus on Diversity Science beginning August 2025. We seek candidates who will increase the department’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, mentoring and/or lived experience. The search is open to candidates in any area of psychology. Candidates must hold a doctorate in Psychology or related field. ABD candidates must complete all degree requirements prior to completion of the first academic year. Applicants must possess and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, research on diversity, equity, and social justice in psychology, and service. The successful applicant will teach new and existing undergraduate and, possibly, graduate courses, including classes in the applicant’s area of expertise and classes in the Sociocultural Awareness requirement for the psychology major (e.g., the psychology of gender, psychology of the Black experience, or cross-cultural psychology). We encourage applications from candidates who have the ability to teach courses related to research methods. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with diverse populations and to create an inclusive learning environment that is attuned to the educational needs of all students. Evidence of effective teaching experience in a college or university setting with students from diverse backgrounds is highly desirable. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate research competency as well as evidence that they will continue to grow their research agenda, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure external funding. Assistant Professor, Theoretical/Computational Physics

Tenure-track, 9-month position in theoretical/computational physics at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences beginning August 2025. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field at the time of employment. Applicants are expected to show evidence or potential for a productive research program and to possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The department is planning to grow in the areas of biophysics and quantum information. A candidate who can contribute to one of these areas is highly desirable. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. A successful candidate will be able and willing to teach a variety of courses in physics at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Towson University is beginning a transition from a comprehensive teaching university to a high research activity (R2) institution.
