This position is responsible for working closely with the Equipment Cage and Production Studio Manager to ensure smooth and efficient function of the Transmedia equipment cage, labs, and select facilities. This includes helping to design, implement, and refine processes that relate to those spaces and their use; assisting in the hiring, training, and managing on a daily basis the up to forty employees that work in those spaces; taking an active lead in daily operations; dealing with supply pipelines; troubleshooting networks and software; interfacing with a wide variety of departments, vendors, and technical personnel; and meeting regularly with the department chair and faculty to ensure that the goals of Transmedia are met. The cage, labs, and facilities have over seven-hundred users, so this position must put a premium on efficiency and communication. The position may have weekly “on-call” hours. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, BFA in Film, Photography, Computer Art or related media or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Experience running an equipment rental facility.
  • Ability to enforce rules and policies for the benefit of all users.
  • Experience with media (film, photo, animation, sound, etc.) production in as wide a context as possible.
  • Experience with training students and staff on management and use of media facilities and equipment.
  • Some supervisory experience.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Mac OS, network technology, current software in a myriad of disciplines (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite and other specialized software) and the ability to troubleshoot basic problems with system software and network.
  • Knowledge of digital cinema workflows from camera to post-production.
  • General facility with software and mechanical parts.
  • Ability to work with students and faculty for equipment/software training, job supervision, scheduling, and overall management.
  • The ability and initiative to keep up with changing technology, curriculum, and the concurrent shifts in the function and use of the facilities and lab spaces.
  • Ability to weigh needs of individuals versus organizational needs in service of all of the stakeholders involved.
  • Ability to calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair inkjet printers.
  • Ability to calibrate monitors for color correction.
  • Ability to set up and link AV systems.
  • The ability and initiative to keep up with changing technology, curriculum, and the concurrent shifts in the function and use of the facilities and lab spaces.
Responsibilities
Daily and Long-Term Operations:
  • Assist with hiring, and training, and supervision of all staff for the TRM cage and labs.
  • Assist the manager in reviewing and updating TRM cage and labs policies and procedures.
  • Assist in updating and developing training documents and metrics for the TRM Equipment Cage and Lab employees.
  • Oversee creation and fulfillment of equipment reservations for workshops and classes.
  • Ensure continuity between shifts and that front desk staff are aware of priorities for each day.
  • Make decisions about scheduling with regards to experience of workers and number of workers needed for a given day.
  • Review individual faculty and student requests for equipment, pick up or drop off outside normal parameters, and other special circumstances as they arise.
  • Review weekly repair and lab needs.




Resource Oversight:
  • Oversee the inventory process for the TRM Equipment Cage.
  • Inventory and order expendable materials for the labs, office and TRM Equipment Cage.


Student Interface:
  • Coordinate Greenlit Reservations: make advance thesis/grad reservations, schedule gear preparation and pick up and drop off times.
  • Oversee past due equipment return, invoice mitigation and payment, equipment substitutions, and other unexpected operational issues as they arise.


School Facilities and IT:
  • Partner with Obor Digital and VPA IT to troubleshoot database malfunctions and software issues.
  • Collaborate with IT to test and troubleshoot new platforms as necessary.
  • Review faculty and student swipe access requests.
