Job Description Summary

An adjunct faculty in Psychology will be responsible to teach students in online undergraduate Psychology, Sociology, Christian Counseling, and/or graduate Psychology. Additionally, adjunct faculty being considered for graduate level teaching may be asked to mentor doctoral students in dissertation research as a chairperson or committee member. Candidates must have the academic credentials to teach and/or mentor research in one or more of the following areas: research, statistics, industrial/organizational psychology, physiological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, behavioral health leadership, public mental health, biblical integration, and tests and measurements. Teaching responsibilities will include preparing and disseminating weekly announcements, communicating with students via e-mails, preparing course videos, moderating discussion board forums, and grading weekly. The adjunct will be expected to respond to e-mails within 36 hours and will grade student’s assignments, giving substantive feedback, within 5 days of the assignment submission. The adjunct will also carry out administrative responsibilities as directed by their Instructional Mentor, Faculty Support Coordinator, Online Chair, or Associate Dean; these administrative tasks include roster verification, reporting items, and timely submission of final grades, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

1. Teach material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule to ensure student satisfaction.

2. Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.

3. Provide regular and timely feedback to students.

4. Participate in school retention initiatives by maintaining contact with students and offers assistance to absent students.

5. Advise students in matters related to academics and attendance.

6. Motivate students to actively participate in all aspect of the educational process.

7. Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Dissertation Mentoring Responsibilities

1. Mentor dissertation students in the dissertation research process from conceptualization of the research problem to designing & conducting the dissertation study.

2. Guide dissertation students in the IRB process.

3. Provide regular and timely feedback to students.

4. Lead Dissertation Defense meetings virtually.

5. Motivate students to progress in their dissertation projects.

6. Other duties relevant to the dissertation process.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Candidates must be able to educate students from a Christian worldview.

2. Candidates must have a compatible statement of faith and academic worldview with Liberty University.

3. Candidates must have the academic credentials to teach or mentor in one or more of the following areas: research, statistics, industrial/organizational psychology, physiological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, behavioral health leadership, public mental health, biblical integration and tests and measurements.

4. Earned doctorate in Psychology or related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

5. Superior interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and communication skills required.

6. Creative, innovative, and problem-solving skills required.

7. Proven organizational skills and ability to complete assignments timely and accurately with minimal supervision.

8. Proficiency in MS Office, Canvas, and audio/video.

9. Able to obtain and maintain licenses if applicable as required by state or accrediting commissions.

10. Demonstrated strengths in teaching & mentoring at the college level is essential.
