Duties and Responsibilities

  1. *Serves as the Director of International Admissions for the Office of Global Engagement (OGE), providing strategic and tactical direction for the entirety of the international admissions operation as it serves OGE
  2. *Designs, Develops and implements a comprehensive international admissions strategy to achieve ambitious enrollment goals.
  3. *Oversee all aspects of the international admissions process from initial inquiry to enrollment.
  4. Ensure the accurate, fast, and efficient processing of applications and timely issuance of I-20 forms.
  5. *Oversee the international student application process, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to optimize yield.
  6. *Participates in strategic planning and development of activities including strategies to meet current and long-term organizational goals and objectives.
  7. *Build a team of admissions professionals in the areas of recruitment and outreach to international students.
  8. *Trains, supervises, evaluates staff in the daily operations of international student admission functions.
  9. *Manage the international student admissions budget and develop strategies for maximizing return on investment.
  10. *Foster strong relationships with international high schools, colleges and universities, and recruitment agencies.
  11. Build and manage a network of international recruiters/agents.
  12. *Ensure compliance with all federal regulations governing international student admissions.
  13. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students on campus.
  14. *Stay current on trends and best practices in international admissions.
  15. *Provides Assistant Provost for OGE and UH Manoa leadership with best practices, policy and procedure analysis, advice, and recommendations to enable effective management decisions in regards to International Admissions.
  16. *Provide leadership and guidance on international student recruitment at UH Manoa.
  17. *Represent the OGE on related campus and university wide committees related to the International Admissions, as needed
  18. *Collaborate with other campuses within the UH system to jointly recruit students and build pipelines to UH Manoa.
  19. *Travels to various geographical locations across Oahu, neighbor islands, nationally, or to foreign countries for visitations, presentations, or college fairs.
  20. *Works outside of normal scheduled hours including evening, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Language or related field, and 6 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for International Student Services, Student Recruitment/ Admissions, Student Services in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Advanced and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of developing and emerging concepts, principles and methodologies in the area of International Student Admissions.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of principles, theories, federal and state laws and systems associated with International Student Admissions.
  4. Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and use reasoning to discern underlying principles and issues when problem solving, and apply creative thinking to resolve problems in new and innovative approaches.
  5. Demonstrated written and verbal competence in presenting ideas, concepts and models clearly using persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  9. Extensive experience in a leadership role.
  10. Strong project management and organizational skills with attention to fine details and commitment to quality.
  11. Proven track record of success in developing and implementing international recruitment strategies.
  12. Strong understanding of the international education landscape and current trends.
  13. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  14. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  15. Extensive experience working with students, faculty, and administrators in a higher education institute.
  16. Ability to engage in travel off island, including neighbor islands, mainland, and foreign countries, several times a year for purposes including visitations, presentations, and college fairs.
  17. Ability to work outside normally scheduled hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in educational administration, social sciences, or related field.
  2. Experience working in the Asia-Pacific region.
  3. Fluency in a second language.
  4. Fluency in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean language is preferred.
