Job Description:
The Part-time Technologist C position providing studio coverage and maintenance of the Jewelry Design metals fabrication labs, while also supporting the needs and demands of students and faculty. This is a highly technical position requiring a specialized set of skills and a detail-oriented approach to the work.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures related to equipment and metalworking processes.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) and files in the Jewelry Design studio and Technicians' office
- Monitor studios for proper handling, storing and disposing of hazardous material.
- Demonstrate proper use of equipment and materials for faculty and students.
- Ensure equipment is in working order: install, maintain and repair tools, equipment and machinery.
- Close and/or open the studios as needed and be responsible for daily checklists.
- Supervise and record the borrowing of tools to students and faculty
- Maintain, color code, inventory, and monitor a database of all tools and equipment.
- Respond to faculty requests regarding studio specific jobs and tasks in a timely fashion.
- Oversee the sign in/out monitoring log for students using the open studio
- Conduct routine maintenance of all studio chemicals on a quarterly basis.
- Identify problems and report findings to the Dean, Department Chair and Director of Environmental, Health & Safety of equipment needs and concerns.
- Research and contact vendors regarding studio equipment or supplies at the request of the program's Assistant Chair.
- Assist with the intake of donations, the set-up and takedown of exhibits, trade shows, and other events as necessary.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of laser and arc welding, 3D printing, and the chemical processes related to jewelry and metalsmithing.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in jewelry fabrication and metal arts or a related field.
- A minimum of three years' experience in goldsmithing, silversmithing, or jewelry fabrication; experience in a combination of these areas would be preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement protocols with confidence.
- Proficient in data entry and analysis using resource tracking systems.
- Strong understanding of customer service principles, including assessing needs, meeting quality standards, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Familiarity with jewelry fabrication and production tools and machines, including their operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to manage program resources, including the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials.
- Must possess tact, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ability to work effectively with a team and diverse groups.
- Proficient in basic jewelry fabrication, including sawing, piercing, shaping, assembly, and finishing.
- Basic computer skills required; familiarity with Rhino 3D, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping preferred.
- Knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Google Sheets, and Documents.
- Strong problem-solving skills to apply rules and logic to produce practical solutions.
- Excellent memory and ability to recall information, navigate environments, and understand relationships.

Salary
Salary: $38.03 per hour
The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement
(CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions
of employment. Hiring Rate: $38.03 per hour with step
increments per Salary Schedule 91, after 18 months of service and
annually thereafter.

Days/Hours: M-F, 17.5 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
