LOCATION: Moravian University - Lancaster Theological Seminary Campus

POSITION SUMMARY: Moravian University Police Officers are charged with the security of life, limb, property, and equipment within the institution, the enforcement of all institution rules and regulations, and the enforcement of laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Federal Regulations. Officers are also charged with fulfilling the mission of the Moravian University Police Department, which is to promote a safe and well-ordered environment for students, faculty, staff, and other members of the community by extending care and assistance, overseeing the physical surroundings and, when necessary, enforcing laws and regulations, all carried out in a compassionate manner hallmarked by the values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence (RISE).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enforce the rules and regulations of Moravian University and laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Federal Regulations.
  • Provide armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot.
  • Investigate reports of criminal activity.
  • Document any police interactions and prepare reports in the department's record management system.
  • Provide for the security of all campus buildings and property by assisting in the locking of buildings and reporting circumstances that present any danger to university property, students, or employees.
  • Direct traffic and investigate motor vehicle accidents.
  • Provide a variety of services including but not limited to medical transports, motorist assistance, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, responding to fire safety device activations, and accident and criminal investigations.
  • Conduct crime awareness programs along with Resident Advisors for the students.
  • Check for and report all suspicious activity, equipment malfunction, and other irregularities.
  • Provide security at special events.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Sergeants or OIC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The candidate must have a minimum of an Associates Degree or prior experience as a campus police officer or as a community-based police officer.
  • Certification under PA Act 120 or equivalent, if from outside PA, with the ability to obtain comparative compliance as a police officer in PA, via the waiver process.
  • Waiver process includes proof of certification of completion from an approved police academy (i.e., NJ PTC certified) and passing a written examination regarding PA laws.
  • Certification under PA Act 235 or the ability to become certified by attending the one-week PA Act 235 training is required.
  • Must maintain a valid or current PA operator's license or operator's license in the state which residing.
  • Appreciation of the service and educational role of a university Campus Police Department.
  • The position demands excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the University including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public.
  • Must submit to a background check, and upon conditional appointment pass a medical examination, drug screen and psychological examination.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition to respond to emergencies and handle criminal incidents in accordance with the rules of Campus Police.
  • Must be able to provide occasional coverage for shifts and special events as necessary.
