General Schedule:
Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
Hybrid remote work is available, after a 90-day onboarding. Hybrid work and flex options are contingent upon strong performance, attendance and conduct.

Position Overview & Job Duties:

The Talent Development team helps grow and develop UCO Staff & Faculty by providing opportunities for professional development and supporting other campus wide programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Oversees and/or assists with signature programming such as Leadership UCO, New Employee Orientation, and the Management Development Program
  • Facilitating other training and information sessions for adult audiences as needed
  • Acting as the main administrator for our Learning Management System and UCO’s required annual trainings
  • Supports UCO leadership’s ad hoc requests for training and teambuilding/retreat facilitation
  • Completing other administrative tasks, such as auditing and follow up, related to program tracking as needed
  • Design professional learning materials
  • Providing support to Employee Relations though exit interviews and training that is responsive to corrective action trends
  • Managing regular updates to training modules and other online materials
  • Supporting the Director of Employee Relations and Talent Development and other departments with program facilitation as needed
  • Sending and assisting with campus communication related the Talent Development department
  • Assesses programs and monitors data in order to inform work and communicate successes
  • Maintaining awareness of UCO employee learning needs, soliciting feedback, and driving education on the variety of professional development resources, tools, and guides available at the University
  • Working with other departments and subject matter experts to create learning programs
  • Completes ad-hoc projects at the discretion of the Director of Employee Relations and Talent Development
  • Perform ad-hoc research, benchmarking, projects and tasks as needed
College/Department Overview:

The talent development specialist role works inside of the Talent Management team, which is part of the larger Human Resources department. Talent Management is six distinct areas that work together to attract, empower, and equip UCO faculty, staff, and student employees. This role will require someone who enjoys working as part of a team inside of a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Structure:
This role reports to the Director of Employee Relations and Talent Development.

Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in job related field or 4+ years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Speaking/Writing - Confident public speaker with excellent presentation skills. Ability to effectively express ideas, instructions, and concepts; Ability to speak and write effectively and clearly. Excellent interpersonal relationship and customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with a diverse population of staff/faculty, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

Judgment and Decision Making - Ability to make independent, complex decisions while simultaneously exercising personal initiative and good judgment. Practices critical thinking. Insightful and empathetic, with the ability to balance logic with compassion through the lenses of consistency and sustainability.

Social Perceptiveness - All members of the Talent Management team will work together to achieve area, departmental and divisional goals. Demonstrates good human relations skills to establish and foster good relationships throughout the entire university community. Must consistently display servant leadership. Practices active listening.

Fast-Paced Environment - Ability to keep a positive attitude during stressful situations and keep up with multiple projects. Willingness to work overtime as required. Proficient use of personal computer and ability to quickly learn and utilize the university software program and systems in the performance of regular duties.

Integrity - Job requires a high level of respect, ethical decision-making, confidentiality, and honesty. This position includes the management of a university credit card and an established budget. Excellence in the stewarding of these university funds is non-negotiable.

The Talent Development Specialist should possess or be willing and able to learn these skills to be successful:
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Moderate to advanced facilitation ability
  • Ability to execute clear communication
  • Strong organization and ability to organize others
  • Ability to be a self-starter and make sound decisions
  • Working knowledge of LMS platforms
  • Basic presentation / instructional design knowledge
  • Ability to analyze simple data and make informed decisions
