Hampton University Staff
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federal TRIO Program funded through the U. S. Department of Education to provide academic, career, and financial counseling to eligible middle and high school students and to encourage them to graduate from high school and pursue their post-secondary education. ETS consists of a Middle School Component that serves 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in eleven target schools via a Saturday program that meets twenty Saturdays during the program year for instruction in math, English and science. Tutors are also available to provide assistance for students on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well. Saturday bus transportation is provided, and breakfast and lunch are served at the Saturday sessions. The High School Component serves eligible 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in ten target schools in Hampton and Newport News via a tutorial program on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the academic year, annual college tours, and academic workshops.
This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding.

Job Duties:
The Administrative Assistant is a full time, 12 month employee who reports to the Program Director and performs the following duties:
- Perform administrative responsibilities required to effectively manage the project and work in concert with all staff to ensure that program goals and objectives are met.
- Distribute incoming mail, type memoranda, prepare weekly meeting agenda and minutes, and file correspondences with the Office of the Vice President for Administrative Services
- Maintain administrative files of all program activities and records of participants, design activity flyers, process mass emails to program participants, and prepare on-line requisitions.
- Supervise the work study student(s) who perform general clerical duties
- Enter student data into the program database, generate reports as requested, and perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
- The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma, have a minimum of three years of clerical experience, to include impeccable record keeping, accounting and organizational skills. Candidates actively pursuing a postsecondary degree will be strongly considered.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of various types of office equipment and standard computer software packages.
- Possess a professional manner, effective written and oral communication skills, the ability to manage undergraduates, and demonstrated commitment to work with students from low- income, first-generation college backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Ability to perform multiple responsibilities simultaneously, to work in a self-directed environment, and to plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis.
