The Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences at Rowan University is seeking a part-time temporary non-tenure-track faculty member to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department with a primary responsibility in teaching general biology, including non-majors courses. Additional courses may be assigned in the candidate’s areas of expertise depending on departmental needs. We seek a candidate with experience in curriculum development using best pedagogical practices, integration of technology into the classroom, and learning/course assessment. A full teaching load for this 10-month position is 18 credits per academic year (fall and spring semesters combined), but some teaching release time will be granted for service activities to include technology integration in the classroom and other assigned service to the Department. A start date of September 1, 2024, is preferred.

The Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences is one of six departments in the College of Science and Mathematics, which is also home to the School of Earth & Environment. The department plays a vital role in scientific literacy development through general educations offerings and serves approximately 1000 undergraduates and 30 graduate students in the following programs:
  • B.S. and B.A. in Biological Sciences
  • B.S. and M.S. in Bioinformatics
  • B.S. in Molecular & Cellular Biology
  • B.S. in Neuroscience
  • B.S. in Translational Biomedical Sciences
  • M.S. in Medical Laboratory Science
  • M.S. and Ph.D. in Complex Biological Systems
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, a biology-related sub-discipline, or Biology Education Research is expected; candidates with master’s degree with significant previous teaching experience and exemplary pedagogy will be considered
  • Strong interest in promoting scientific literacy, particularly for non-science majors
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting success of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Evidence of student-centered teaching practices and experience with learning outcomes assessment
  • Ability to design inquiry-driven laboratory experiences with measurable learning outcomes
  • Familiarity with biology education research
