Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Mechanical Trades Technician
DEPARTMENT: Facilities
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Facilities, Energy Management
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
STARTING PAY RANGE: $34.70- $41.22/hour
POSITION PURPOSE: To maintain and repair facility Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and food service equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Install and maintain HVAC systems - 40% of time
- Perform necessary HVAC equipment preventative maintenance
- Diagnose and repair of HVAC equipment.
- Install, program, and maintain HVAC controls.
- Diagnose, repair, and replace food service equipment.
- Ability to work with steam and chilled water systems.
2. Install and maintain plumbing systems - 40% of time
- Installation and repair of toilets, urinals, fixture faucets, drain, and supply water piping.
- Drain cleaning
- Fire system piping inspection
3. Knowledge or ability to operate a computerized building automation system -10% of the time
- Program building occupancy schedules.
- Monitor system for equipment and campus alarms.
4. Perform other duties as assigned -10% of time
- Any other duties assigned not generally associated with the trades of Plumbing and HVAC technicians.
- Assist with campus event setup
- Periodic metal fabrication and welding
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma
Experience:
- Journeyman level of experience in one or more of the job functions listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Trade School or apprenticeship program.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC or plumbing related field
- Licensure or certification in one or more of the specialties listed above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
- Ability to deal with pressure situations.
- Ability to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
WORK SCHEDULE:
FTE: 1.0 Full-time
Term: 12 month - year-round position
Shift: Hours are typically 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Monday through Friday; occasional weekend or evening hours as needs arise; occasional on-call responsibilities.
PREREQUISITES:
Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.
