The School of Continuing Education is the largest provider of professional development in Southeastern Wisconsin providing year-round lifelong learning through varied venues - in our state-of-the-art classrooms in downtown Milwaukee, onsite at business locations, online and other unique locations.
Job Summary
The Program Manager is expected to support SCE’s commitment to ‘leading change’ through competency-based programming, promoting local and global collaborations, and introducing innovative programming to remain current with customer needs and changes in the work world.
Under general supervision and reporting to the Continuing Education Associate Director, the position leads and supervises all aspects of department programming and is expected to perform a wide variety of complex duties exercising good judgment and demonstrating a high level of professionalism and effectiveness in successfully supporting the delivery of face-to-face and online non-credit courses.
Primary programming will be in the areas of business, technology and data industries. Although other program areas may be assigned. Communication and working with instructors, participants, staff and student workers are critical to the success of the programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage instructor and participant relationships for maximum learning experience
- Recruit and hire new instructors
- Initiate new program areas for program revenue generation, determine curriculum, investigate subject matter expertise needs and locate instructors
- Write and submit training proposals for customized training and generate additional program revenue
- Research new marketing avenues and investigate current trends for traditional and professional associations to support current and new program areas
- Monitor enrollments, evaluate program activity, and use data to identify strategic marketing needs/opportunities to make informed decisions regarding courses offered
- Coordinate with SCE marketing staff to develop marketing plans - defining audiences, write copy and course descriptions when necessary
- Review and approve marketing pieces
- Manage the scheduling of activities related to public and customized training programs, including conferences (instructor, participant, rooms, refreshments, and materials)
- The program manager is expected to work with the associate director to develop and manage the budget of the assigned program area(s) and assumes responsibility to ensure positive financial outcomes and overall profitability in managed program areas
SALARY: The position offers a competitive salary between $52,000 - $56,000. Individual candidates’ experience, education and qualifications will determine the appropriate starting rate at the time of hire.
UWM offers an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, paid sick and personal leave and four weeks annual vacation as well as contribution towards the cost of other employee benefits, including pension.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: This is a full time, fixed-term non-teaching academic staff position, as a Continuing Education Program Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three years relevant work experience including administrative, technology, business, or sales
- Evidence of excellent, collaborative, communication skills including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population
- Evidence of strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software
- Ability to maintain flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends when necessary to support programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in business, technology and/or data industries
- Master’s degree and/or specialized training or certification in related subject matter
- Experience working in higher education environment; adult programming responsibilities a plus
- Proficient Web Technology skills with documented experience posting and updating website(s); experience with Word Press and/or Canvas software a plus
- On-line technology experience facilitating programs or large interactive meetings using software such as Teams and Zoom
- Project Management experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully plan and execute deadline-driven projects with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills that establish prior experience engaging and building relationships
- Demonstrated understanding of cost accounting principles including break-even/profit analysis for individual projects
