SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

This full-time, staff position reports directly to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. This position requires an earned doctorate in nursing or doctorate in another academic field with a Master’s in nursing. A minimum of three years teaching experience in a professional nursing program including demonstration of knowledge, skills, and abilities in administration is required. The Director of Undergraduate Nursing will coordinate all curriculum and clinical courses. Additional programs will have the curriculum and clinical courses with a subject matter expert or coordinator for those specific populations.

The Undergraduate Director is responsible for administrative oversight and leadership of Associates Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and RN to BSN online programs. The Undergraduate Director represents the Division and is actively involved with nursing and other health care organizations in the state, region, and nation.

Although this position is largely an administrative one, teaching is the University’s primary mission, and this position is expected one course per year of teaching responsibilities, Scholarly activity, student advising, and service to the University and community are also expected.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Represents the governing entity and the program of nursing
  • Fulfills the authorized role to direct the programs in all its phases.
  • Approves and implements all policies and ensures that University and Nursing policies are congruent and documentation if they differ due to accreditation standards.
  • Approves the instructional staff in the nursing program.
  • Develop and oversee faculty mentorship and onboarding for online teaching, following best practices in online pedagogy.
  • Selects appropriate clinical sites
  • Approves and implements policies for the admission, progression, probation, and dismissal of students
  • Collaborates and assists in recruiting and marketing of students.
  • Ensures the enforcement of student policies.
  • Assigns faculty to teach content in their areas of expertise and knowledge
  • Supervise, support, evaluate, and provide guidance to faculty.
  • Verifies students’ completion of program requirements.
  • Notifies the Board of Nursing Staff and CCNE immediately when there is a change in the name of the program director or in contact information.
  • Responsible for the budgetary process that ensures the nursing programs success.
  • Develops and maintains an environment conductive to the teaching/learning process.
  • Serves as a liaison for the nursing program with the administration of the governing entity.
  • Leads the faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum
  • All curriculum is faculty led, developed, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Maintains an ongoing relationship with the community and with clinical affiliating agencies.
  • Advocates for adequate faculty to teach in the program.
  • Ensures that the faculty/student ratios are maintained by accreditation standards.
  • Participates in the strategic plan for the governing entity that includes future planning for the graduate nursing program.
  • Director will have dedicated time to provide administrative, resources, curriculum, and evaluation of the program in entirety.
  • Make budget recommendations related to faculty development and employment needs as well as program resources. Coordinate with practice partners.
  • Familiarize self with university mission, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement the instructional, educational, and professional objectives of the Undergraduate programs.
  • Work directly with faculty, staff, and students to develop quality teaching, professional learning experiences, and public service programs.
  • Continue review, improvement, and development of the undergraduate nursing program.
  • Supervise tenure track, non-tenure track, and adjunct faculty.
  • Complete all Course Virtual Observations, Evaluations, and Analyses as required by accrediting bodies such as CCNE and Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Refine and implement an application process to sustain and increase part-time and full-time enrollments.
  • Collaborate and work in-tandem with university partners achieving program implementation of all instructional tracks

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Contribute to team efforts to deliver a quality nursing education program by completing assigned activities as requested and in a timely manner.
  • Act to facilitate sustainable inter-professional relationships between faculty, students, University administrators and employees, and public or private organizations using professional communication techniques.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or doctorate in another academic field with a Master’s in nursing.
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing active license.
  • Experience in population specific nursing for two years.
  • Clinical practice in nursing.
  • Successful teaching and administrative experience in a baccalaureate or graduate nursing program.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and University committees and with public and private organizations both within or beyond his or her discipline.
