JOB SUMMARY:
The Transfer Advisor plays a crucial role in facilitating the transition of students from community colleges, two-year institutions, or other four-year colleges and universities to Kentucky State University. The position involves providing strategic guidance, support, and information to assist students in making informed academic decisions and exploring transfer options. This role is integral to enhancing student engagement and leadership development initiatives, ultimately supporting overall student success.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Transfer Advisor is responsible for independently managing transfer and academic advising, coaching, and providing academic interventions for transfer students. This position is expected to create and implement initiatives that align with and support university transfer goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Develop and manage programs and initiatives that guide prospective transfer students, enhancing their academic transition and success at KSU.
• Actively attract and engage potential transfer students by attending college fairs, visiting community colleges, hosting special events, providing admissions presentations, and conducting personalized follow-ups.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Kentucky Community Technical College Systems (KCTCS) and community college personnel to support student pathways and curriculum alignment.
• Target transfer outreach efforts toward specific regions, including BCTC and JCTC campuses, and explore new opportunities at Ivy Tech colleges near the Kentucky border.
• Establish and maintain a KSU presence at Columbus State and Cincinnati State, coordinating with designated staff.
• Lead the creation and management of program-specific transfer guides and articulation agreements to facilitate transfer credit equivalencies and opportunities for new partnerships.
• Inform and optimize technology-based workflows and operational plans to streamline the transfer process.
• Counsel transfer students on scholarship opportunities and guide them through the financial aid process.
• Coordinate and implement special events such as onsite Transfer Day each semester, College Fair, and Career Day, ensuring seamless logistics and participation.
• Stay informed on all relevant academic program information and best practices related to transfer student success.
• Analyze institutional data to assess the effectiveness of strategies and report on outcomes.
• Collaborate with internal departments such as admissions, financial aid, registrar, and bursar to ensure a seamless transfer
• Participate in professional development activities to remain current on best practices in advising and transfer student support.
• Travel and work outside normal hours as needed to achieve departmental goals, including regular visits to the assigned territory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree or higher, with at least two years of experience in academic advising, enrollment management, transfer, or other student services.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and initiate projects independently.
• Knowledge of higher education structures and transfer articulation processes.
Licensing and Certifications:
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and the ability to learn and utilize CRM systems like TargetX.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that support transfer goals.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as required.
• Ability to represent the University professionally in various settings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
• Work is typically performed in an office environment.
• No significant physical effort is required.
• Minimal exposure to physical risk.
