Job Summary/Basic Function
Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for assisting with
the management of the fiscal functions of the University in accordance with generally accepted
accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Governmental
Accounting Standards Board, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance
with financial management techniques and practices within public higher education institutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
▪ Assists in planning, controlling, and managing the University’s fiscal function and performance.
▪ Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls at the University and implements changes in consultation with the Controller.
▪Assists in coordinating all external audits of the University.
▪Coordinates and reviews the integration of financial data from the Banner system.
▪Prepares financial statements and footnotes for auditors and other interested parties.
▪Assists in managing financial accounting and reporting for the University and Foundation.
▪Provides timely and accurate analysis of financial reports.
▪In concert with the Controller, enhances and/or develops, implements, and enforces
policies and procedures by way of systems and processes that will improve overall operations, efficiency, and effectiveness.
▪Assists in efforts to upgrade and improve the software system finance module as needed.
▪Assists in supervising and reviewing the reconciliation of university bank accounts, investment accounts, and other balance sheet activities.
▪Assists in developing and implementing procedures to manage the University cash flow.
▪Represents the Controller and acts on the Controller’s behalf as needed.
▪Make recommendations to leadership regarding policy decisions and problem-solving.
▪Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for various reporting agencies, including campus, state, and federal government.
▪Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Has knowledge, training, and experience of accounting and auditing standards and regulations.
•Demonstrates sound management skills within a diverse environment.
•Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
•Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
•Is knowledgeable in computer applications
•Is familiar with Banner
