Communications Associate, Digital & Social Engagement
About the Opportunity
The Communications Associate, Digital and Social Engagement, reports to the Assistant Director, Digital and Social Engagement and plays an integral role in executing plans and programs for digital media communications and audience engagement for the promotion of Advancement programs and initiatives, as well as supporting university campaigns, and philanthropic efforts. This position will execute, at a detailed and day-to-day level, the overall Marketing digital strategy for outreach to nearly 500K alumni and potential philanthropic donors around the globe, including social media, digital content experiences, and email. The role will require identifying and developing engaging social content, driving paid social initiatives, including acting in collaboration with internal teams, training the broader Marketing team on social media best practices, and developing overall marketing content.
The Communications Associate, Digital and Social Engagement will focus on:
1. Executing social strategy, including identifying stories and engaging content, and generating, crafting, and editing content, including photo, design, and video content, for use across social and digital platforms.
2. Monitoring conversations and engagement metrics across social media channels and flagging issues in real time through engagement, escalation, or documentation, in coordination with the Marketing and Communications team.
3. Generating and executing new ideas for enhancing Advancement's digital engagement strategy, including enhancing broadened social engagement and reach, leveraging digital media opportunities, and identifying and seizing upon new platform opportunities.
4. Supporting all Advancement social properties, acting as a support to the official administrator for all published content on behalf of the larger team, as well as training team members (ex. co-ops and student workers) and overseeing their contributions before they are published.
The Communications Associate must represent the university and the Advancement team in a professional and enthusiastic manner with a special focus on growth strategies and expanding our digital outbound channels. As a member of the Advancement division, it is essential for the Specialist to understand and actively support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community. This position is required to perform their duties, in person, on the Boston campus. Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. Occasional ground and air travel, and a flexible schedule are required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Two or more (2+) years of experience in digital media
production.
- Demonstrated proficiency in social media platforms (including
Facebook organic and paid, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, TikTok,
LinkedIn, BeReal, Snapchat, and others), Microsoft Office, and CMS
tools such as WordPress.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal
communications skills required.
- The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with a strong
customer service focus.
- Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with
alumni, volunteers, students, staff, faculty, vendors, and external
entities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment
on multiple projects at a time while still hitting
deadlines.
- Experience working in higher education is a plus. Basic
proficiency in Adobe design suite a plus.
Responsibilities:
Digital and Social Media Content
Execute and steward AR's social strategy, including identifying stories and engaging content, and generating, crafting, and editing content for use across social and digital platforms. Support a social media editorial calendar that is in line with Advancement messaging and goals.
Social Monitoring
Monitor conversations across social media channels and flag issues in real time through engagement, escalation, or documentation. Gain a thorough understanding of Advancement programs, events, and benefits in order to address any issues or questions that should arise.
Innovation
Generate and execute new ideas for enhancing Advancement's digital engagement strategy, including enhancing broadened social engagement and reach, leveraging digital media opportunities, and identifying and seizing upon new platform opportunities.
