Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working together as one university.
We are seeking an Ambulatory Infusion Nurse for Green Spring Medical Oncology for adult solid tumor patients. The patients are treated with chemotherapy and immunotherapy for various types of cancer. There is a multidisciplinary approach to care for all patients and we do practice primary nursing care and the Clinical Nurse is an integral part of that practice.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinating care for assigned patients to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes.
- Provide direct patient care based on the nursing process while mentoring others to promote quality and excellence of care.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance.
- Promote improvements in treatment area processes and cost-effective use of resources.
- Ability to properly conduct general physiologic monitoring and patient care equipment such as an EKG and IV pump.
- Accountable for own decisions regarding patient care.
- Identifies impending changes in patient condition and individual performance issues.
- Analyzes patient care data to deliver and evaluate care.
- May focus in the area of clinical practice or education.
- Knowledge of current health care environment.
- This position communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager so that the Nurse Manager can be aware of trends for longer term problem solving.
- Mentors others to promote quality, safety, and excellence in clinical care.
- Precepts RN’s and CMA’s.
- In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, sets unit goals, which contributes to the accomplishment of the practice and organization goals.
- Promotes and identifies quality improvement initiatives that are aligned with the departmental and organizational safety and operational goals.
- Address internal and external concerns regarding safety, customer service and/or quality improvement, responding to these within one week of receipt, utilizing service recovery methods as appropriate.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing process, social, behavioral, biological and physical science.
- Knowledge of current health care environment.
- Working knowledge of Epic and Epic’s Beacon ordering system.
- Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding patient care.
- Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.
- Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.
- CPR and AED certified.
- Accountable authority for decisions regarding patient care; may act in absence of the nurse manager.
- Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and to make judgments regarding patient care.
- Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.
- Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.
- Maintain confidentiality per clinical and operational standards and holds others accountable.
- Listens actively top opinions, ideas and feelings expressed by others and responds in a courteous and tactful manner; holds others accountable for same behaviors.
- Ability to monitor unit and foster teamwork.
- Support clinical practice at the discretion of the nurse manager and practice administrator.
- Ability to assist the Nurse Manager with performance management and regulatory requirements and holds self-accountable.
- Ability to manage personnel resources and allocation to meet patient care, staff and organizational requirements of the treatment area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Individual must be a registered nurse.
- Licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
