Summary
Enterprise Marketing and Communications is seeking to hire a Communications Generalist.

This position will translate organizational goals into strategic communications and content deliverables while demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of one or more communication specialties. Responsibilities include providing a combination of services such as communications project management; graphic design; original writing; and web and Intranet maintenance. The position works both independently and as part of a team, exercising independent judgment for routine-to-moderately-complex issues while referring unprecedented issues to a higher level. The position’s decision making has a measurable impact on the department’s operational performance and service delivery.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Drive enhancements to team member communications, physician communications, programs and platforms.
- Develop timelines to ensure publishing of media to internal platforms is completed as required and the content and delivery is appropriately planned for target audience.
- Provide assistance on editing and placing written content related to enterprise-wide initiatives, including human resources, benefits, and recognition for VCU Health System units, services and team members.
- Assist with finding and developing story ideas and writing feature articles for VCU Health platforms to highlight outstanding work and contribute to positive team member experiences.
- Develop and organize content centered on local, regional and national healthcare industry recognition campaigns.
- Create and edit content for internal channels related to team member and physician communications, including newsletters, fact sheets, FAQs, meeting materials, talking points and PowerPoint presentations.
- Represent communications team on enterprise-wide projects and initiatives.
- Support up to four enterprise-level events annually with communications and logistical planning to enhance team member engagement.
- Collaborate with marketing and social media professionals to produce copy for content campaigns related to, specific to and/or supportive of the team member experience.
- Display judgment, resourcefulness, and ability to identify issues or areas that should be addressed differently.
- Attend department meetings and help set goals and evaluation techniques to assess effectiveness.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications or a relevant field.
- One to three years of public relations or communications experience and education .
- Understanding of the importance of clearly defined writing .
- Proficiency with digital communications .
- Experience managing content management system (CMS) .
- Proficiency with graphic design software .
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact across the VCU Health enterprise with all levels of management and team members .
- Ability to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality when necessary.
- Strong ability to self-manage and proactively handle multiple task.
- De monstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
- Understanding of the importance of clearly-defined writing and evidence of professional writing techniques and skills.
