Position Focus:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and External Affairs for Yale University Library and Yale Collections, the Assistant Director serves as a key member of the Library and Collections development team. The team is responsible for partnering with staff and leadership to advance fundraising initiatives supporting the Library and Collections. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in fundraising activities and overseeing multiple priorities and resources, and they will be a skilled writer/editor, familiar with relational databases, and able to work across teams. The Assistant Director's key responsibilities include the following:
Works with the Senior Director and the leadership of Yale Library, the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Yale University Press, and the Vice Provost for Collections and Scholarly Communication to determine fundraising goals and help drive individual fundraising. Both in partnership with the Senior Director and individually, identifies, cultivates, and solicits donors who will support these areas. Manages or co-manages various individual prospects that are currently unassigned and closely affiliated with these areas. Cultivates and solicits donors for gifts and collaborates with colleagues in Leadership Giving, Major Gifts, the Alumni Fund, Reunion Giving, and Planned Giving to ensure prospects are solicited comprehensively. Partners with the Senior Director in building engagement tools for prospects, including the University Library Council and the Yale Collections Campaign Task Force. Helps identify volunteers to fill leadership roles and develop opportunities for these individuals to become increasingly involved in support of development priorities. Performs donor and other research in conjunction with other teams in the Office of Development. Provides high-level strategic thinking, writing, and coordination to enhance the unit's fundraising efforts. Writes and edits a full range of materials for use in Campaign and general fundraising activities. Helps to create and staff events that advance unit fundraising goals. Prepares reports and analyzes data related to development with and at the direction of the Senior Director and deans/directors. Collaborates with stakeholders. May represent Library and Collections fundraising programs at divisional and Office of Development meetings. May serve as an ambassador of the unit at public functions, reunion gatherings, and other university events. May serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned.

Essential Duties:
1. Measures success of developmental events and programs; recommends changes. 2. Contributes in planning and implementing cultivation and solicitation activities. 3. Researches and identifies potential new donors. 4. Contributes in development of financial solicitation programs, meets activity and revenue goals. 5. Analyzes grant-making organizations to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs. 6. Compiles, writes, and edits grant applications; federal, state, foundation, corporate. 7. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Master’s Degree relating to work in museums, galleries, or libraries. A genuine passion to build relationships across Yale’s libraries and museums, Office of Development, and alumni and donor communities to strengthen engagement which leads to support for these units. Experience in matrixed project management. Familiarity with higher education as well as cultural heritage institutions.
