This position will serve a critical need for Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station – Beeville Station, which is a satellite of Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Corpus Christi, in the development of a dynamic, independently funded program focused on beef cattle production systems involving grazing lands, both introduced pastures and rangelands, in the south Texas plains region. The priorities of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center at Corpus Christi are to conduct cutting edge research that results in resilience in environmental sustainability and production, economic strength, and health and nutrition. Works to assemble and lead multi-agency and trans-disciplinary faculty teams in conducting applied, systems integrated research on ruminant animal nutrition, animal-forage-soil nexus, animal health, and environmental quality in relation to industry needs and state and federal policy. Enhances synergy of statewide programs through research and technology transfer/outreach collaborations with other faculty at affiliated agencies and institutions in south Texas, including Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, among others. Collaborative team opportunities include creation and utilization of novel methods, including remote sensor applications, models, and critical metrics for evaluation and assessment of animal nutrition, energy, and environmental management across species and disciplines with the goal of improved cattle productivity, efficiency, and environmental protection. The successful candidate will implement outreach in livestock production by working closely with the current Extension Meat, Beef Cattle, Livestock, Range, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, and 4-H Specialists to develop, implement, and evaluate programs. This person will also work to extend research and technologies to livestock producers and trade associations and assist these groups with problem solving needs. Supervises research personnel, including graduate students, undergraduate students, and Research Scientist for the laboratory and feeding facility. A majority of the 1,322 acre research farm is available for grazing research by the cattle herd. Oversees management and operation of a laboratory and experimental cattle feeding facility. The qualified candidate will serve as Graduate Faculty in the Department of Animal Science in its effort to achieve excellence in Quantifiable Animal Performance and Cattle Adapted to Tropical and Subtropical Environments.
