SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator of Campus Recreation will cultivate opportunities for all members of campus to engage in a variety of recreational activities. They will develop, coordinate, and facilitate a variety of comprehensive programs that include, but is not limited to intramural leagues, tournaments, special events, outdoor recreational trips, fitness programming, club sports, as well as all recreational/intramural space on campus. The Coordinator of Campus Recreation will be committed to promoting the health benefits of participating in recreational activities and provide a variety of different engagement levels, so all members of the campus community are able to participate, from leisure activities to competitive activities. Additionally, they will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the club sports and look to continue to grow different club sport opportunities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Recreation
- Design, develop, and coordinate a comprehensive recreational program for the campus community in the areas of intramurals, fitness, recreation facilities, outdoor recreation trips, and club sports Hire and supervise student work-studies for the different areas of campus recreation
- Provide specific training to student work-studies dedicated to the different areas of Campus Recreation Coordinate all outdoor recreational trips and programming
- Oversee and lead outdoor recreational activities and trips
- Promote and market recreational programing across campus Recreation Facilities
- Coordinate facility usage and programs in a collaborative manner with other departments on campus.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the mountaineer fitness center including but not limited to, staffing, supervision, training, scheduling and evaluations of student managers and work study students, and fitness equipment maintenance, and administration of releases
- Ensure cleanliness, proper maintenance, and submission work orders relative to the recreation and fitness areas of the mountaineer fitness center.
- Oversee the recreational equipment rentals at the control desk
- Oversee swimming pool operation and maintain compliance with Texas department of health guidelines.
- Hire, train and schedule part time employees as lifeguards Oversee the management and usage of all identified recreational facilities
Club Sports
- Recruit new students each academic year into existing club sports
- Meet the recruitment goal of new incoming students into the different club sports established by the university Ensure effective selection, training, supervision and evaluation of volunteers, part time coaches, or trainers/instructors for club sports.
- Enhance existing club sport programs and develop new programs that support the University’s strategic objectives for enrollment, retention and persistence of Schreiner University students.
- Coordinate with other universities or leagues to find competitions for applicable clubs.
Other
- Prepare and manage budgets, providing data for reports and program evaluations
- Participate in professional development related to campus recreation.
- Maintain University safety rules. Contribute to team effort within Student Affairs and across departments on campus. Establish good working relationships across the different departments on campus.
- Be a part of the university’s communication plan associated with the develop and delivery of campus recreation information on social media outlets and the website
- Maintain and enforce Campus Recreation policy and procedures.
- Participate in Student Affairs meetings ·Participate in the coordination and facilitation of student orientations, Mountaineer Camp, Family Weekend, Recall, and other university events that require the work of the Student Affairs staff.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license, related insurance and good driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with sensitivity to the needs of others and the ability to be direct when necessary.
- The ability to delegate and balance responsibilities.
- Acceptance of and sensitivity to the work of higher education and the responsibility of Student Affairs
- Experience in recreation and fitness
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills Commitment to being a role model and positive advocate for the area of recreation
- Ability to adapt effectively in response to challenges Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Familiar with social media
- Willingness to acquire trainer certification in first aid and CPR
