Brief Statement of Duties:

The Department of Psychological Science at Northern Michigan University is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor starting in Fall 2025. The on-campus position requires teaching, engaging in creative scholarship, serving on university committees, supervising and/or monitoring graduate practicum experiences, and managing program certification activities. The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and masters-level graduate courses related to clinical psychology, such as Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Psychological Interventions, Ethics, and specialty courses in the applicant’s area of expertise.
The Department of Psychological Science maintains a multitude of cutting-edge psychology laboratories, with dedicated research space for each faculty member. The department also oversees the newly renovated Behavior Education Assessment and Research Center, an on-campus clinic featuring private treatment rooms for therapy or research, dedicated office space for faculty and clinicians, and an interactive classroom. Faculty members receive annual funds for travel and research, access to a dedicated grants and research office, and a comprehensive benefits package. The university provides various internal grants that faculty members can apply for to secure additional research funds or reduce their teaching workload.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:

Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Discipline / Degree Area:

Psychology or closed related field.

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:

Must be qualified to receive a Psychologist License in the State of Michigan.

Required Minimum Work Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:

Ability to develop and teach psychology courses
Ability to advise students about the academic program and careers in psychology.
Ability to supervise practicum experiences
Ability to oversee program certification requirements
Ability to conduct scholarly research

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Level of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate psychology courses
Quality of documentation supporting a positive record of advising and supervising students
Level of experience arranging practicum sites for student placements
Quality and quantity of published peer-reviewed research
