The position will provide direction and leadership in the design, implementation, and assessment of service programs, educational activities, and events that embody the value of volunteerism, service, responsible citizenship, and student leadership development. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community agencies; assisting in the development and incorporation of service-learning and other community-based experiential learning initiatives; and engaging students through service and leadership opportunities. This position will plan and develop curriculum for programs, special events, workshops, and seminars that provide education on service-learning, community engagement, and leadership skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Program Leadership and Development:

 

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight in the development and implementation of community-based service opportunities, volunteerism, advocacy, research, and student leadership development.
  • Design and implement programs specifically aimed at developing student leadership skills, including but not limited to programs like emerging leaders’ academy, Hawk Camp, Inspire Leadership Conference, LAUNCH leadership training, and a peer leadership program.
  • Advise students on leadership development, civic responsibility, and civic engagement competencies.
  • Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions to cultivate leadership, community engagement, and responsible citizenship among students, including but not limited to supporting programs like Brave Foundations mentoring program.


Community Partnership Development and Collaboration:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies to create collaborative service, experiential learning, and leadership opportunities.
  • Work closely with university stakeholders and community organizations to develop opportunities that advance curriculum implementation from theory to practice through high impact practices.
  • Promote the value of volunteerism, service, and leadership within the university and the broader community.


Administrative and Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervise and manage student and temporary staff.
  • Seek external funding to support creative endeavors related to programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate risk management and evaluation activities related to community-based and leadership programs.
  • Maintain and monitor budget for leadership program.
  • Further institutionalize processes and infrastructure for academic service-learning and student leadership development at UNCP.


Assessment and Research:

  • Collect, maintain, and manage data; conduct assessments; and report learning outcomes on program effectiveness.
  • Conduct research around best practices and present in the areas of service-learning, civic engagement, community development, and leadership development to provide best practices.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Candidates must possess an earned Master’s Degree in Student Service, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field. Must have excellent communication skills and applicable computer skills including Microsoft Office. Must have excellent managerial and interpersonal skills and experience, establishing effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the local community. The ability to plan and assess programs and write grants is key.

Management Preferences:  Candidate should have experience supervising students and working directly with community partners and university stakeholders.
