The Payroll Specialist is responsible for payroll processing in accordance with policies and procedures established by St. Edward's University. The position will include processing student payroll, hourly non-exempt and exempt payroll runs twice per month. Title: Payroll Specialist

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas, invites applications for the position of Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for payroll processing in accordance with policies and procedures established by St. Edward's University. The position will include processing student payroll, hourly non-exempt and exempt payroll runs twice per month. The position works closely with the Payroll Manager and requires attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality when working with employment records.
For consideration, Candidates must possess:
- Bachelor's degree in any financial discipline (accounting, business, etc.) with two years field experience or four years of work experience in related field.
- Two years of Payroll experience required.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and maintain positive working relationships.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable general ledger systems, procedures, and financial chart of accounts. Experience and general knowledge of international tax/payments a plus.
- Must be able to prioritize and effectively manage a high volume of tasks.
- Must demonstrate highest levels of integrity with the ability to work with sensitive, confidential information.
- Excellent communication skills.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Process bi-monthly payroll, including any/all of the following: student, hourly non-exempt and exempt payrolls
- Assist Payroll Manager with the accurate and compliant management of data in Arctic International GLACIER system, in collaboration with Student Business Services for appropriate taxation of foreign employees, students, and University vendors.
- Complete data entry for completeness and accuracy to present to Payroll Manager and department Director for review
- Provide data and reporting for review after each payroll process is completed
- Provide university-wide correspondence related to payroll deadlines
- Respond to departmental inquiries, including employee verification/W-2 requests
- Proactively work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues
- Understand and trouble-shoot the current timekeeping system
- Provides assistance with scheduled compliance reporting and processing (audit, federal, state, internal etc.), including W-2 processing
- Assist management with fiscal year-end close procedures and audit processes.
- Assist and conduct testing of ERP system upgrades for payroll and operations
- Assist with updating and maintaining department process and procedure manuals
- Collaborate with payroll manager to develop payroll process improvements
- Assist with training, maintenance, and troubleshooting for payroll processes
- Maintain up-to-date information and training material for the public on multiple platforms
- Provide a high-level of customer service to all university departments
- Demonstrate high integrity and maintain confidentiality when working with employee information
- Responsible for regulatory and policy compliance as it applies to the position
- Performs other job-duties as assigned
