Director, Research Dev

Job Summary

Direct/Manage/Supervise the organization's life science research activities. Develop and administer research plans, policies, and procedures. Evaluate results to ensure alignment with established objectives and timelines. Ensure research strategies and procedures are compliant with regulations, grant requirements, and organizational guidelines. Analyze and resolve departmental issues and needs. Prepare reports and keep upper-level management informed of progress and problems. Typically requires a bachelor's or a master's degree.



Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the U-POWER Center Director to achieve the goals of both the overall center and individual center components. Issues faced are often highly complex and uniquely challenging, requiring extensive consideration of variables that impact multiple areas outside of the job area.
  • Overall Center: Ideate, draft, seek input, revise, and disseminate materials that communicate U-POWER’s vision, mission, and strategies; ensure alignment of center projects and products with same; coordinate with members of the community of practice to align visions; coordinate and implement center-wide activities.
  • Eval & Plan: Coordinate and implement the administrative aspects of U-POWER, including meetings, data management, and activities relevant to members of U-POWER’s community of practice; oversee management of U-POWER staff, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and retention; act as a direct supervisor to staff; manage and work closely with post-award accountant and Division Associate Director to monitor spending and authorize the purchase and implementation of new technology, resources, and equipment; prepare progress and other reports for the sponsor; assist with data collection for evaluation activities.
  • Outreach: Provide day-to-day responsibility for operations, writing support, and fiscal management of mini-grants; support dissemination of research findings through a variety of channels, including websites, social media, newsletters, other public communications, and peer-reviewed journals.
  • RPPP: Coordinate and implement the RPPP. Is responsible for screening applicants, communicating with interested applicants, screening applications, facilitating discussions in collaboration with Center Director, providing summaries of review panels, and overseeing updates and challenges in the research.
  • Research Projects: Provide technical writing assistance to investigators, coordinate research assistant hires, and other ad hoc support.
  • Develop and interpret center polices to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. May authorize exceptions to department policy and procedures related to assigned departments. Ensure compliance with Federal and state regulations.
  • May perform responsibilities as a Research Development Associate V.
  • Periodic travel required to attend national meetings and local/regional events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree + four years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + eight years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
