Job Details
The Department of Psychology at Hamline University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology, specializing in any of the following areas: Applied Social Psychology, Personality, Interpersonal Relationships, or Health Psychology (applied social or biological focus) to complement or expand upon our current curriculum to begin in fall 2025. Department faculty are highly collaborative and active, public-facing, and productive scholars. As a department, we focus on providing undergraduate education in psychological science by focusing on theory, practice, and high-impact educational experiences. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment, which is in full accord with the value that Hamline University places on its commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion. The department fosters an environment in which all members are supported and feel empowered to attain their teaching and scholarship goals.
We seek a prospective colleague who:
- Is committed to teaching excellence;
- Demonstrates a record of supporting students from diverse backgrounds;
- Engages in and mentorship of students through research and internships;
- Can teach a range of required courses in the field (Introductory Psychology and Research Method) and develop electives in areas of expertise; University-wide First Year Seminar program.
- Has an active and productive research agenda;
- Is interested in engaging in shared governance and providing service to the department, college, university, and community.
Tenure-track faculty typically teach six courses per academic year, with a one-course reduction during the first year and a three-course release after a successful 3rd year review. A Ph.D. in Psychology is required; ABD applicants with expected defense dates by August 15th, 2025, will also be considered.

You will be asked to include the following documents with your application:
- A letter of interest and current curriculum vitae
- A teaching statement that outlines a teaching philosophy in the context of a in diverse undergraduate campus environment with a substantial population of students who are among the first-generation of their family to attend college.
- A list of previously taught courses and those that could be taught in area of expertise.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, for example sample assignments, copies of student evaluations, a list of courses previously taught and/or a list of courses that could be taught.
- A research statement focusing on past work and future plans, including how your research program may engage undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting.
- Names and contact information for three references
References for finalists will be contacted to submit a confidential reference letter.
