Job Summary
The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology at Georgia College & State University invites applications for the 12-month position of Department Chair of Accounting & Business Law beginning July 1, 2025. Disciplinary background in either Accounting or Business Law will be considered. Working collaboratively with the faculty in the Department of Accounting & Business Law, the Chair is responsible for providing administrative and academic leadership for the department and for implementing the Department's and College's goals, giving special attention to the objectives for the academic programs of the Department.
Responsibilities
Administration -
Implementation of a Department mission including short- and long-term plans based on The University's Vision Statement and Goals and the mission and strategic plan of the College. Responsible for the recruitment, orientation and advisement of students, staff, and faculty in collaboration with the faculty, including an assessment and recommendation of faculty candidates Supervision of all employees in the Department including administration of performance evaluations, administration of faculty and staff development programs, and recommendations regarding faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion, administrative responsibility in staffing classes along with the scheduling and collaborating with department faculty in planning the schedule. Conduct program reviews to evaluate existing degree, accreditation, certification, and other academic programs and to include development of new programs and implementation of improved programs to enhance the quality of instruction, academic programs, and research. Management of School/College facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes quality learning in classroom and laboratories, where applicable. Support of graduates in their efforts to secure employment or gain entrance to graduate school.
Fiscal -
Administration of the departmental budget and collaborating with the department faculty in the planning of the budget.
Leadership -
The Chair, as the leader, mentors department faculty, participates in the development of school/college and university policies, and contributes to AACSB accreditation efforts. Additionally, the Chair will be expected to cultivate and maintain alumni relations, fund-raise, work with an advisory board(s), and to effectively manage course scheduling, budgets, and personnel. With approximately 230 students with 12 FTE faculty and staff, the Chair represents the Department on the College's Leadership Team and reports directly to the Dean of the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology. The Chair also maintains and enhances connections between the Department and business communities to establish the vision and direction for the curriculum. The Chair supervises two faculty coordinators who assist on matters of budget, curriculum, assessment, and admissions/advising in the respective disciplinary fields of accounting and the accountancy graduate program. In conjunction with the chair responsibilities, the department chair is expected t carry a 50% teaching load during the academic year, either at the undergraduate or graduate level, serve on elected and appointed committees, and acceptance of other duties assigned by the dean.

Educational Requirements
Qualified candidates for the tenured rank as full professor must have a terminal degree (PhD, ABD, or JD) from an accredited university. For those with Business Law backgrounds, in addition to a JD, preference will be given to those with an MBA, MAcc, credentialling in the accounting field (e.g., CPA, CMA, etc.), with experience in the accounting industry, or have served in an accounting academic department.
Other Required Qualifications
Additionally, qualified candidates must be recognized scholars with active research records in their respective disciplines for the appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure at Georgia College & State University.
