Announcement of External Faculty Fellowships at the Stanford Humanities Center

The Stanford Humanities Center invites applications for the external faculty fellowship program. Up to 10 fellowships will be awarded to non-Stanford scholars for academic year 2025-26.

The Humanities Center is a world-renowned hub for advanced research, inspiring the work of innovative scholars and students at all stages in their academic careers. Each year the Center welcomes a total of nearly 50 fellows and international visitors, hosts over 100 research workshops, and presents over 50 public events as part of an on-going project to investigate some of the most important questions facing humanity today.

This residential research program provides a collegial environment for faculty who are undertaking innovative projects in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. Fellows participate in the intellectual life of the Humanities Center and the broader Stanford community, sharing ideas and work in progress with a diverse cohort of scholars and benefitting from a variety of campus resources.

External fellowships are intended primarily for individuals currently teaching in or affiliated with an academic institution, but independent scholars may apply. Faculty fellowships are awarded across the spectrum of academic ranks and one goal of the selection process is to create a diverse community of scholars. Applicants who are members of traditionally under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

The fellowship term is for the academic year (September 2025-June 2026). Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) and be at least three years beyond receipt of the degree by the start of the fellowship year.

The deadline to apply is 11:59 PM PT on October 1, 2024.
