Description

The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking an optometrist to join the Wilmer Eye Institute's comprehensive eye care division. This individual will work independently to provide primary ocular evaluations for patients at Wilmer Eye Institute's outpatient clinic location in Bel Air, MD.
  • Comprehensive care providers perform vision and medical eye exams within the bounds of individual licensure and Maryland's legal scope of practice.
  • Common encounters include diabetic eye examinations; evaluation of dry eye disease, cataracts, and glaucoma suspicion; Plaquenil screenings; and triage of urgent eye or vision concerns.
  • On-site referral/consultation for patients requiring surgical or advanced subspecialist care in glaucoma, retina, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and low vision rehabilitation.
  • Vision care services include prescription of glasses and soft contact lenses, with the opportunity to build a practice in specialty therapeutic contact lenses. An on-site optical is available with a team of licensed opticians and high-quality materials.

Qualifications

Experience
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience or successful completion of accredited optometry residency program.

Education
• Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry required.
• License in good standing in State of Maryland required.
• National Provider Identification (NPI) required.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
