The Chemistry Department is seeking a research assistant to work in the NSF-funded research program. The research assistant will work with Dr. Weber in nearly all facets of her research program.

The successful applicant will provide predominantly lab-based work to include research support and help coordinate daily project operations, including standard biochemical techniques and plant-based experiments.

In this technician position, you will be required to provide research assistance, including molecular biology, protein purification, and work with plants including tobacco, as well as basic lab tasks for research related to the NSF grant. A successful research assistant may move on to additional roles that include scientific writing and independent project planning. The research assistant will interact regularly with the project team members, including undergraduate students to review outcomes and milestones related to the project. This is a term position for 18 months; renewal past that point will require additional funding.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
  • Basic molecular biology/biochemistry experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a group setting and individually
  • Previous laboratory experience is preferred, especially in molecular biology and standard biochemical techniques.
  • Experience working with E.coli-based protein expression and/or plant systems is strongly preferred.
  • No full-time research experience is required.
