In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree required in education, counseling, higher education, human resources or related discipline. Two years’ experience working with diverse and non-traditional populations in a counseling capacity, or one-year experience working in career services with diverse and nontraditional populations.

Pertinent Other: Must possess strong counseling skills and be interested in and committed to working as part of a team to support student development. Excellent customer service working with diverse communities using patience and active listening. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to share complex information with a diverse population.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Student Development Specialist reports to the Dean of Student Development/Director of the Center for Careers and Transfer and/or their designee and performs the following duties within the Student Development Unit:

• Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence informed best practices and programming to foster student development, with a focus on career, transfer, personal and professional development.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students and alumni on all matters related to career and transfer services.
• Develops and maintains relationships with employers and four-year institutions to support students’ career and transfer goals.

• Assists with the planning and implementation of career and transfer events and programming.

• Supports students in developing academic, personal and career success plans focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities to facilitate reaching personal, education and career goal attainment.

• Provides informational presentations to students and prospective students about student development offices and support offerings.

• Develops and maintains relationships with academic departments and campus offices for the purposes of offering student support and encouraging referrals to student development offices.

• Assists with the maintenance of the Center’s online job bank and other web-based tools.

• Works with Dean of Student Development to assess and address needs of Student Development offices in regard to staffing, outreach and programming.

• Assists with the Graduate Follow-up Survey and provides data and reports based on student support and outreach efforts as requested.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary of $47,500.00.
