Summary
Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a dedicated and skilled Linux Engineer to join our Infrastructure and Cloud Services team within the Office of Information Technology. In this role, you will manage and support Linux environments across multiple data centers and provide technical assistance to colleagues and end users. Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu administration is essential. Familiarity with common infrastructure platforms such as Cisco UCS, VMware, and Azure is also required. While not mandatory, experience with Microsoft Windows Server and other Microsoft enterprise services, such as Active Directory and Group Policy Management, is highly valued.

Job Duties
- Build and manage virtual servers deployed across multiple on-premises data centers and cloud environments, including VMware, Azure, and AWS.
- Utilize knowledge to guide system enhancements and standardizations, ensuring up-to-date security and performance.
- Regularly apply updates and patches to servers using tools like Red Hat Satellite and SaltStack.
- Troubleshoot, remediate, and perform root-cause analysis on systems ranging from servers, compute, storage, AWS, Azure, and other related technologies.
- Manage virtual servers using VMware vSphere/vCenter and manage Cisco UCS hardware to ensure efficient operation.
- Monitor server health using tools like SolarWinds and Elasticsearch, focusing on performance metrics and configuration issues.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation to address urgent IT issues.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and knowledge base articles for efficient and consistent IT practices.
- Operate effectively within an ITIL-based framework, handling incidents and changes and fulfilling requests efficiently.
- Proactively seek out innovative solutions for IT challenges and make recommendations to update and improve legacy systems, infrastructure, and services.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
