Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, this position will collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning ( CTL ) to ensure maintenance, stabilization, and build-out of the college Learning Management System ( LMS ) Canvas, to include third-party integration. This position is also responsible for keeping the learning environment scalable and sustainable, executing precise testing protocols and change management while ensuring parity between testing and production environments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
- Builds courses within the Canvas LMS and discovers and implements Canvas features for effective course delivery
- Analyzes systems requirements and performance; develops specific measures to increase the overall efficiency
- Tests and performs backup restoration operation to meet business needs
- Performs basic level system testing related to LMS issues, service pack upgrades, and patch set releases
- Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Ensures vendors are providing and maintaining appropriate services in line with Understands Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by conducting periodic performance audits
- Stays current with new technologies in the field through research, conferences, podcasts, webinars, and trade publications
- Implements feedback provided by faculty related to course content changes and improvements
- Collaborates on special projects, tasks, and assignments related to online teaching and learning
- Provides guidance and expert advice to management and other departments on technical, systems, or process-related topics
- Provides technical support to end-users for both hardware and software issues including installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems, workstations, and servers in support of complex processing requirements
- Creates and edits LMS tip sheet material
- Participates in documentation of the learning environment and evaluation of additional tools that work in concert with the learning platform to provide a full range of functionality for learning and teaching
Service Excellence
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or sixty (60) college hours completed and three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or an equivalent combination of education and working experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology, Information Technology, or Business
- At least one (1) year’s working experience in a higher education setting
- At least one (1) year’s working experience with Canvas LMS
- Knowledge of server and PC operating systems, including cloud-based system operations
- Skilled with server performance tuning and monitoring tools
- Skilled with designing and converting curriculum to an online format
- Skilled in oral, electronic, and written communications
- Skilled in excellent customer service, interpersonal relationships, and timely follow-up on commitments
- Skilled in organization with detailed accuracy
- Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Ability to master new technologies, digital platforms, and systems
- Ability to install new and rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with standards and project and operational requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
