Job Description Summary
This position supports the mission of the Spiritual Life Center through program development and implementation and student leadership training. This position will oversee community building that fosters robust interfaith engagement, training for dialogue across difference and the exploration of spiritual practices. This role will also involve supporting the various other priorities and projects of the Spiritual Life Center such as service projects, retreats, educational programming and ceremonial leadership. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a tolerance for ambiguity, and the ability to work collaboratively, creatively and adaptively are all essential.The position works in direct collaboration with the Director, Chaplains, student assistants, and student leaders while also cultivating a wide variety of partnerships across the campus and beyond. The position reports to the Director.
This is a less than half-time position.
Job Description
- In partnership with the Director, oversee the implementation of an interfaith fellowship program, including student recruitment, curriculum development and oversight of weekly gatherings. Equipping fellows for dialogue across multiple dimensions of difference will be a key component.
- Mentor student leaders of religious life organizations in effective leadership and Center programming. (Currently Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Catholic groups)
- Participate in the Center’s efforts to promote spiritual tools for wellbeing, such as mindfulness, meditation, movement, art creation, etc.
- Promote bridgebuilding amongst religious and spiritual communities through joint programming and collaborative opportunities.
- Provide opportunities for interfaith literacy especially related to business contexts.
- Assess and advocate for accommodation needs of religious students in the realms of dining, residential life, and academics.
- Work with Director and staff to plan Center events such as “Art and Soul,” “We’re Better Together” interfaith engagement, Study Day Retreats, Interfaith Day of Service.
- Collaborate with numerous offices and divisions across campus for programming, Center advancement, and support of students.
- Maintain Center benchmarking projects with peer institutions. Contribute to the Center assessment strategies, connecting assessment to Center mission and goals as well as University and divisional goals.
- Guide social media communications and contribute to Center newsletter excellence.
Other Duties
- Assist as needed with division-wide and campus-wide programs (such as Orientation, Diversity and Inclusion training, Admissions Open Houses, Vigils, Falcon Weekend, PRIDE month, etc.)
- Serve on Student Affairs division or University-wide committees when applicable.
- Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Center.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-4 years of relevant experience or master’s degree and 1-2 years of experience.
- Master’s Degree in Theology, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of diverse religious traditions and theory and practice of interfaith engagement
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to initiate new projects, experiment with new ideas and work independently
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Creative and collaborative mindset
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, with a particular understanding of religious pluralism
- Knowledge of world religions, theory and practice of interfaith engagement, and student development theory
- Experience in multi faith settings, diversity training programs, diverse worldviews and traditions, or spiritual formation
Working Environment
- Environment is fast paced. Some evening and weekend work required as dictated by program.
- Work is team-oriented with Directors, Chaplains, and student leaders
