General Statement of Duties:   Full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Mathematics. Teach undergraduate mathematics courses, participate in departmental and college-wide activities, advise undergraduate students, and engage in scholarly activities. An earned doctorate in a mathematical discipline by August 2025 is required. All areas of specialization will be considered. Preference will be given to those who show evidence of excellence in teaching and ability to teach courses in the Applied Mathematics Concentration.

Fitchburg State University is a regional comprehensive state university serving north central Massachusetts. The Mathematics Department teaches students across campus as well as students in the Mathematics major, including concentrations in Applied Mathematics and Middle/Secondary Education, and the Mathematics and Data Analytics minors. Departmental faculty are dedicated to excellent teaching of all students and research across a variety of areas. Scholarly and creative pursuits as well as other professional development are supported with annual continuing scholarship and travel funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach a standard workload of 12 credit hours (3-4 courses) per semester, including both introductory and mathematics major courses.
  2. Prepare for the assigned course and/or laboratory instruction.
  3. Provide student assistance including office hours and academic advising.
  4. Participate in curriculum review and development and student outcomes assessment.
  5. Participate in committee meetings and university functions, including commencement and convocation.
  6. Participate in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field by June 30, 2025.
  2. Demonstrated evidence of teaching experience in college level mathematics.
  3. Commitment to excellence in teaching.
  4. Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
  5. Evidence or potential of scholarly/creative activity, including the ability to perform research that will engage undergraduate students.
  6. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
  7. Ability to work in an environment of shared responsibility and clear effective communication within and amongst departments

  9. Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Full-time, Tenure Track, 9 month benefited position, beginning September 1, 2025

Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience and the MSCA Bargaining Agreement.  There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses.
