Associate/Assistant Professor- Visual Impairment, Orientation & Mobility

Primary Purpose of Position:
This open rank, tenure-track faculty position is housed in the Special Education Program located in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education. Primary teaching responsibilities include face-to-face, hybrid, and online graduate courses in visual impairment, orientation and mobility, and related-areas. Supervision of clinical field experiences and research leading to publications and presentations at academic conferences is expected. Additional duties include academic advising, research and scholarship, university service, collaboration, accreditation related activities, promotion of the program and the university, and other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Special Education or a related field with primary specialization in visual impairment and/or orientation and mobility. Candidates who are ABD will be considered. Candidate must have valid credentials in visual impairment and/or orientation and mobility or be certification eligible. Applicants should have demonstrated potential for scholarly publication and successful teaching at the university level. Preference will be given to applicants committed to preparing teachers for culturally diverse populations, and those with expertise and teaching experience with PK-12 special education students with visual impairments. ACVREP certification in at least one other area (e.g., Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist) is desirable.

The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and clinical supervision in Special Education with an emphasis in visual impairment and/or orientation and mobility. Candidates must demonstrate potential for effective teaching in special education at the graduate level, research and service, and activity in appropriate professional societies. Strong interpersonal skills, online education experience, and excellent organizational and communication skills are expected.
