Tenure Track Faculty Position in Cognitive Psychology
Williams College: Psychology
Location: Williamstown, MA
Open Date: Aug 08, 2024
Deadline: Oct 02, 2024 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description
Williams College Department of Psychology seeks candidates for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level (although a more senior appointment could be considered under special circumstances), beginning July 1, 2025. We seek a productive scholar and excellent teacher with broad expertise in the field of cognitive psychology whose research program can engage undergraduate students. Candidates with research interests in cognitive psychology and related areas are encouraged to apply and will be given full consideration.
Williams College offers substantial internal support for research and a generous sabbatical program. The teaching load typically consists of four semester-long courses per year and a January term course in alternate years. Likely courses include the cognitive psychology section of a team-taught introductory psychology course, a 200-level cognitive psychology course, and an upper-level research seminar with a laboratory in the candidate's area of interest. The successful candidate will also be expected to join the teaching rotation for our department's methods and statistics laboratory course as well as an integrative capstone seminar. We are especially interested in candidates from underrepresented groups as well as those who are able to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to social identities, including, but not limited to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Additional information and resources can be found at our departmental web site:
http://psychology.williams.edu.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or a related discipline at the time of appointment. All offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background check. Further information is available at http://dean-faculty.williams.edu/prospective-faculty/background-check-policy/.
Application Instructions
Applications must be submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/151736. Your application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, a diversity statement, three letters of recommendation, and up to three writing samples (articles). The research statement should include a description of your research program, your future goals, and how undergraduates can be included in your research program. The teaching statement should include a description of your pedagogical approach, evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., course evaluations), and a brief description of the course you would ideally like to teach as an
upper-level research seminar. The diversity statement should address your prior experiences and/or proposed approaches to building an inclusive learning environment in your teaching, mentoring, research, service, or college community.
For full consideration, applications must be submitted before October 1, 2024. Campus visits will occur in late October and early November, 2024, with the hope of extending an offer by early December. Please contact Christine Russell, department administrative coordinator, at cjr1@williams.edu with any questions.
